With outstanding academic achievements and impressive essays, Tu Uyen conquered the strict judges and received scholarships from famous schools in the US such as Knox College (worth 204,000 USD), Texas Christian University (worth 213,000 USD), Depauw University (worth 176,000 USD),...

In addition, Uyen also received an acceptance letter from Purdue University, a long-standing and famous school for training in aerospace technology. According to QS World University Ranking 2025, Purdue University is ranked 89th in the world with only 20% of international students, a pioneer in the US in promoting the participation of women in the field of science and technology.

Some of Tu Uyen's outstanding achievements include: winning a 60% scholarship from TH School; achieving 3 A's (the highest score) in biology, mathematics and business in the AS Level exam; being a member of the "Hear Us Now" project supporting programming teaching for hearing-impaired students.

According to Tu Uyen, her high school years had a great influence on her achievements and development orientation. In grade 10, Uyen passed the entrance exam to a prestigious specialized school in Nghe An. However, the desire to experience an international learning environment was always cherished in Uyen - where Uyen had the opportunity to liberate herself, highlight her own identity as well as open the door to studying abroad with a prestigious scholarship.

During an academic competition organized by TH School Vinh, experiencing the "For True Happiness" environment as well as learning about the Cambridge AS & A Levels program, Tu Uyen realized that this was the model of the high school she had always longed for.

Uyen put her struggles when deciding to leave her comfort zone into her essay, helping the female student receive acceptance letters from 11 schools.

For Uyen, leaving a long-standing prestigious public school to move to a completely different international environment was extremely risky and daring. In addition, with the requirement to study and take exams entirely in English according to international standards, each individual must make a great effort to be able to keep up with the new curriculum.

“Weighing the pros and cons before deciding to transfer took up a lot of my time, and I overcame my fear. The fear of missing out on an opportunity that I might regret later outweighed all the risks,” Uyen shared in her essay.

The family discussions lasted for weeks. Finally, realizing their daughter's determination and clear study plan, Tu Uyen's parents supported her decision.

“I used to be afraid of social interactions, but now I can confidently stand in front of a crowd. I have learned to think more carefully about relationships and how to treat myself. Before, there were times when I avoided homework. Now, I have found joy in learning and exploring, whether alone or with others. My achievements may not be the highest, but my confidence has increased a lot. I have begun to believe that inner courage and determination can be a reliable source of motivation and shape who I am” - Tu Uyen expressed her thoughts about the learning process in a new environment in her essay.

Tu Uyen’s choice of major not only demonstrates an effective career orientation strategy, but also aims to eliminate gender stereotypes and affirm the role and capacity of women in the STEM field. The event of passing the admission round of Purdue University has further motivated Uyen to make the final decision. In the context of a developing world and a narrowing gender gap, Uyen believes that engineering - a major that was popular with men in the past - will welcome many influential female leaders.

In the future, Tu Uyen hopes to work in a field that combines engineering and technology, such as Artificial Intelligence, Automation or Software Engineering.

“I believe that advances in these fields will shape the future, and I want to be a part of that development. Besides, I am also very interested in issues related to medicine and biology, so I am learning more about how to apply engineering to develop solutions in these fields,” Uyen confided.
