The National Assembly Chairman stated that Vietnam highly appreciates the role of Mr. Hilarion Etong as President of APF, especially towards the new development stage, when APF increasingly affirms its role in promoting parliamentary diplomacy, implementing inter-parliamentary cooperation programs and action plans to implement the strategic framework for the 2020-2030 period.

The National Assembly Chairman hopes that Mr. Hilarion Etong will continue to support the activities of the Vietnam Sub-Committee in the APF, including considering the adoption of the Can Tho Declaration on Francophone cooperation in the fields of sustainable agriculture, food security, and climate change response at the official mechanisms of the APF as an official document affirming the will and aspirations of Francophone parliamentarians to contribute to the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals and the resolution of global issues.

APF President Hilarion Etong highly appreciated Vietnam's careful preparation in organizing the APF Executive Board Meeting and the initiative to organize a Parliamentary Forum to discuss three extremely important topics for the development of countries; expressed his belief that the Can Tho Declaration will be adopted with high approval; said that he will make efforts to promote the consideration and adoption of the Can Tho Declaration at the official mechanisms of the APF, marking an important milestone in the formation and development of the APF.

At the meeting, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man stated that Vietnam attaches importance to the traditional friendship and cooperation with Cameroon; highly appreciates Cameroon's economic development achievements in recent times, making it the largest economy in the Central African region, the locomotive of the Central African Economic and Monetary Community (CEMAC).

The National Assembly Chairman hoped that in the coming time, the two sides would continue to closely coordinate, deepening the multifaceted cooperation between the two countries, especially in the fields of economics, trade, investment and agriculture. The two sides would increase the exchange of delegations, especially high-level delegations; continue to actively coordinate and support each other at multilateral forums.

Commenting that cooperation between the two countries in investment, economy and trade is still very modest, the National Assembly Chairman suggested increasing the exchange and connection of market information, opportunities and strengths of each side, especially in the field of agriculture. Vietnam is ready to work with Cameroon to seek funding from third parties for tripartite agricultural development cooperation projects in Cameroon. The two sides will quickly resume negotiations on important agreements such as: investment promotion and protection, double taxation avoidance... to create a legal framework for bilateral cooperation.

According to the National Assembly Chairman, parliamentary cooperation is an important channel in the overall good relationship between the two countries on both bilateral and multilateral levels. Therefore, in the coming time, the two sides need to promote this relationship, increase the exchange of high-level delegations between leaders as well as professional agencies of the two National Assemblies; promote exchanges between parliamentarians of the two countries, cooperation and exchanges between young parliamentarians, female parliamentarians, etc.
