Invest in stocks or real estate?
Mr. Nguyen Quang Huy, Executive Director of the Faculty of Finance and Banking at Nguyen Trai University (NTU), analyzed that the Vietnamese stock market will likely be upgraded from a frontier market to an emerging market in 2025. This will attract strong foreign capital inflows, improve liquidity and increase transaction value.
In particular, stocks in the technology, real estate, energy and infrastructure sectors will benefit greatly from economic development trends, urbanization needs and public investment.
“If you choose the right stocks or leading industries, stocks can bring outstanding returns. The flexibility of stocks allows investors to buy and sell easily. However, stock prices can be affected by psychological factors and the economic situation,” Huy noted.
Therefore, according to experts, investors need to understand technical and fundamental analysis to minimize risks. Increase investment proportion in blue-chip stocks in the technology, real estate and energy sectors. ETFs or index funds are also reasonable choices if you want to diversify and reduce risks.
Regarding real estate, Mr. Huy said that with product prices ranging from 2-5 billion VND, the affordable and mid-range housing segment will lead the market thanks to the large demand from middle-income people.
“If lending rates continue to fall and economic stimulus packages are implemented, real estate will become a more attractive investment channel. Key infrastructure projects, highways and industrial parks will increase the value of real estate in strongly developed areas. Real estate provides long-term security and is less affected by inflation. Real estate leasing can create a stable source of income,” said Mr. Huy.
However, the expert said that buying and selling real estate requires time and high costs. The market is easily affected by legal regulations and credit fluctuations.
Therefore, it is necessary to invest in areas with good infrastructure, strategic locations or strong development. In particular, prioritize real estate products that meet real needs, avoid speculation in the high-end segment or far from the center.
According to Dr. Nguyen Tri Hieu, an economic expert, the stock market in the US and the world will fluctuate strongly in 2025 due to Donald Trump's policies. This will affect the Vietnamese stock market.
“The stock market will be very unstable in 2025, with high but unstable returns,” Mr. Hieu said.
Meanwhile, he assessed that the real estate market will recover better than in 2024 because the amendments to the Law on Real Estate Business, the Law on Housing and the Law on Land will gradually permeate. From there, it will create stability and development for the market. However, there cannot be a breakthrough because real estate prices in Vietnam are too high.
Choose to invest in gold or save money?
Regarding the gold investment channel, Mr. Huy said that in the context of global economic instability or prolonged geopolitical conflicts, this is a channel to maintain value and preserve assets.
“Gold is easy to buy and sell, and has a large market. Gold prices often increase when interest rates decrease or the USD weakens. Gold prices depend a lot on external factors such as the USD, Fed policies, and market supply and demand. However, this is an investment channel that does not generate regular profits such as dividends or interest. Therefore, it is possible to allocate a small portion of the portfolio, about 10%, to gold to hedge against risks,” Mr. Huy advised.
Also considering savings as a safe investment channel, with quick withdrawals when needed, the expert said that the profits are not attractive compared to other investment channels. In 2025, savings interest rates are expected to fluctuate between 5-7%/year, enough to maintain positive real interest rates in a context of controlled inflation.
Therefore, according to Mr. Huy, savings should be a supplementary channel to maintain liquidity, not the main investment channel.
“In 2025, all investment channels have certain potential, depending on the risk appetite and financial goals of each investor. Allocation of a balanced portfolio and close monitoring of economic developments will be key factors to achieve optimal efficiency,” Mr. Huy noted.
Dr. Nguyen Tri Hieu analyzed that in 2024, gold rings increased by about 30%, gold bars also increased by about 15%. Therefore, in 2025, in Vietnam, when gold bars are under control, gold rings will have a high profit rate.
“If investors are more interested in the rate of return, they can pay attention to gold, especially gold rings. Then come stocks, real estate, foreign currency and bank deposits,” Mr. Hieu suggested.
