(CPV) – At the seminar “Prospects for Vietnam-Laos press and media cooperation: Challenges and solutions”, delegates focused on discussing and finding measures to improve the lives of people in border areas as well as increase their access to information.
On the afternoon of November 11, in Hue City, Thua Thien - Hue Province, within the framework of the program "Vietnam - Laos Special Friendship Festival 2023", the Ministry of Information and Communications organized a scientific seminar on "Prospects of Vietnam - Laos press and media cooperation: Challenges and solutions". Attending the seminar were delegates from the Ministry of Information and Communications, central ministries, departments and branches, leaders of Vietnamese press agencies and leaders of the Lao Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism, representatives of the Lao Embassy, the two provinces of Salavan, Sekong and the Lao News Agency. Vietnam and Laos share a border of more than 2,300 km, passing through the administrative boundaries of 10 provinces and cities. The lives of ethnic minorities in border areas are still limited in terms of access to information, including economic and trade information. The seminar is an opportunity for delegates to discuss and find measures to improve the lives of people in border areas as well as increase their access to information.

At the seminar, guests listened to experts and media managers from the two countries share on the issues: Digital transformation of journalism and some experiences in Vietnam; Experience in handling fake news in Vietnam; Vietnam.vn - a typical platform for promoting the image of Vietnam - a typical example of applying technology in foreign information; Results of Vietnam - Laos cooperation in journalism and media training; Challenges of Lao information and media in the current context; Prospects for Laos - Vietnam cooperation in information and communications; Support for social management through information and communications tools. Sharing about digital transformation of journalism and some experiences in Vietnam, Deputy Director of the Press Department (Ministry of Information and Communications) Dang Khac Loi said that Vietnamese journalism has been gradually developing to suit the trends of technology, information and communications while closely combining many types, means and increasing coverage both domestically and internationally, meeting the requirements and tasks in the new situation. Faced with new influences and challenges, digital transformation of press and media agencies is a change in the overall and comprehensive way of working, organizational model, creative activities of press works, and at the same time, an important change in the awareness and attitude of leaders, reporters, and editors of press agencies. Discussing at the seminar, Lao delegates said: Lao press currently has 113 publications; 168 radio stations have been broadcast via satellite and the Internet, accounting for 100% of the country's area and many countries in the world can hear, currently the station can also broadcast via online communication system. In addition, the National Radio Station also broadcasts programs in Vietnamese. Laos has a total of 49 television stations, at the central level there are 4 stations, 3 private stations, 3 international stations, 4 central network stations and 29 local stations, of which 3 stations still broadcast on the ground, up-link via satellite; Some provinces are broadcasting via cable TV, digital TV and 6 digital stations; In addition, there are Vietnamese press representative offices in Laos such as VTV, VNA, VOV... In addition, there are military stations, military television, peace protection television, military newspaper, peace protection newspaper. As for private media, there are Laostra TV, Memv Lao. Through the perspectives of experts, managers, and delegates of the two countries, the discussion provided more useful information, suggesting practical solutions to increase access to information for people in border areas; so that information and communication play an increasingly important role in promoting trade investment, tourism development, and border economy between the border provinces of Vietnam and Laos.
