Roses are always a popular flower with customers during the holidays. The price of roses at the market this year has increased slightly compared to normal days.
Ms. Phuong (22 years old) shared that the price of flowers on March 8 increased higher than usual. "Normally, a rose branch costs only 10,000-20,000 VND, a bouquet of 5 branches costs about 100,000-200,000 VND, but the shop just announced a bouquet of 5 branches for 300,000 VND," Ms. Phuong said.
Ms. Phuong (40 years old) commented: "This year the flower market is more crowded. The prices are also reasonable. I bought flowers for my mother but still took the time to take pictures and send them to my sister so that we can go see them in the afternoon."
Mr. Nghia (43 years old) also bought flowers for his female colleagues in the office. "This year the market is much busier, the sellers display more flowers than last year. I bought these flowers for my colleagues, and I ordered the flowers for my wife specifically," he said.
Ho Thi Ky flower market is known as "Lang Biang Plateau in the heart of the city" because this is where fresh flowers are gathered, imported directly from Da Lat with diverse designs. Mr. Cuong, the flower shop owner, said that flower prices started to increase a week ago. "A bouquet of roses costs 200,000 VND on normal days, but on March 8 it will cost 500,000 VND," Mr. Cuong said.
This is the first year Selena (19 years old, French nationality) has received flowers on March 8. She said that although March 8 is International Women's Day, in France people do not celebrate it nor give flowers to women. That is why Selena was very surprised when she went to the market and saw so many men buying flowers. After walking around the market, her boyfriend Victor (22 years old, French) gave her a bouquet of fresh flowers.
Roses are placed in small plastic boxes, convenient for taking away, priced at 400,000 VND/10 flowers, making them a popular gift.
In addition to fresh flowers, flower baskets made of candy are also in high demand. Two portions of candy and flowers cost 500,000 VND each and have already been ordered. The flower shop owner said that for the 8/3 holiday alone, she has prepared 500 gift sets like this. If customers want to order, she will make and deliver them on the same day.
Not far away is Nguyen Van Cu Street (District 5), where many flower stalls in Ho Chi Minh City are concentrated. Close to flower picking places and universities, shopping centers, convenient for buying and selling anniversary flowers, so every year, many small traders choose this street to display their products. On both sides of the street, they use tree platforms to display flowers.
The bear was made from more than 900 foam flowers and cost 850,000 VND. It was made by a shop owner to display and attract customers.
The main products on Nguyen Van Cu street are wax flowers, teddy bears, and small bouquets of flowers at cheap prices, from 30,000 to 50,000 VND, suitable for students in the area.
Nguyen Chi Bao (25 years old, white shirt) and a group of friends went down the street to choose small woolen bouquets for 150,000 VND to give to their colleagues. "This year, we - the male friends - secretly pooled money and bought flowers to give to our female colleagues. I was very happy when everyone "nominated" me to go down the street to buy flowers," said Bao.
