Using a bamboo stick to learn physical education, a 4th grade female student was seriously injured.

According to a report from Ten Tan Primary School, the incident occurred on the morning of January 15, 2025. When gathering the 4A students in the school yard to start the Physical Education lesson, the teacher discovered that student VTL was showing signs of pain. When the teacher asked, student L said he had a stomachache and could not attend the lesson. The teacher called the parents to come to school to pick up student L. When he got home, the parents asked many times but the student did not tell them what happened.

At around 8pm that same day, L's mother was washing clothes when she discovered dried blood stains on her pants. When L's mother asked, she said that she was injured at school. The reason was that before concentrating on physical education class, L used a stick (a stick made for learning "gymnastics with a stick" - the size of a first grader's wrist, 70cm long) to play around, leaning both hands on the end of the stick, the other end pressed down on the ground and jumped over her crotch, unfortunately her hand slipped and stabbed her private area, causing injury.

Information from Thanh Hoa Children's Hospital said that patient L was admitted to the hospital with genital trauma, perineal tear, rectal tear... due to a domestic accident. The hospital performed surgery and treated the patient twice, stabilizing his health.

Teacher Vi Van Hun, a physical education teacher at Ten Tan Primary School, said: "At the beginning of the 2024-2025 school year, I did not see the school board providing equipment and materials for teaching physical education lessons with sticks, so I asked parents to make their own bamboo sticks for students to bring to class. The incident of a student suffering serious genital injuries due to using a bamboo stick in class is regrettable, and I am partly responsible."

Speaking to the press, Mr. Trinh Vinh Long, Deputy Head of the General Education Department, Department of Education and Training of Thanh Hoa province, informed: For teaching equipment and tools that teachers and parents make themselves, they must comply with the standards of the Ministry of Education and Training. Schools and teachers need to strictly manage and use teaching equipment and tools according to regulations. The bamboo stick used for physical education is not in accordance with the regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training.

For each subject, there is a list of equipment and teaching aids prescribed by the Ministry of Education and Training. The school must purchase equipment and teaching aids according to this list, or be provided according to regulations. The school must be responsible for managing equipment and teaching aids by putting them in the educational equipment room for storage after each lesson. At each lesson, the teacher takes out equipment and teaching aids appropriate to the lesson. After finishing teaching, the teacher returns the equipment room to the school...

The incident is being verified and handled by the inspection team of Muong Lat district.
