Forest fires in Kazakhstan leave many dead and missing

Over 800 people have participated in firefighting and search and rescue operations. About 700 residents have been evacuated, while local authorities have also set up many safe shelters.

Despite high temperatures, large fire areas and strong winds, the situation is under control, said Nurbolat Derbisov, head of the Fire Services Committee of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Kazakhstan.

Previously, local media reported that the cause of the forest fire was lightning.
