On June 15, the Department of Cyber ​​Security and High-Tech Crime Prevention, Ho Chi Minh City Police, and District 10 Police are investigating a case in which a person reported that subjects used AI Deepfake (fake technology products in the form of audio, images, and video clips using artificial intelligence) to create famous models, lure them into sex chat, and then defraud them.

Previously, in May 2024, Mr. T. (living in District 5) through social networks got to know a personal Facebook account with a picture of a famous female model, so... make friends, get to know each other. After a while, the female model took the initiative to video call (call with image) to chat intimately with Mr. T..

Because he clearly saw the image, place of residence and activities of the famous female model, Mr. T. trusted her. Then, one time, when Mr. T. was drunk, the female model asked him to have sex with her, so he agreed.

After obtaining the clip and images of Mr. T. chatting sexually, the famous female model used them as a tool to blackmail him. The female model threatened and demanded that Mr. T. transfer money, otherwise she would send the "hot" pictures and clips to his relatives and friends.

Fearing, Mr. T. repeatedly transferred more than 450 million VND to the account designated by the famous female model. However, the victim continued to be threatened and blackmailed, so she reported it to the police.

The leader of the Ho Chi Minh City Police Department said that fraud and extortion tricks like the case of Mr. T. have recently flourished. Local police have also continuously received reports and denunciations from victims... This is a type of crime that uses artificial intelligence (AI) to cut and paste images, fake voices, create video clips, especially using the "Deepfake" technique to create highly realistic images and videos, impersonating other people for the purpose of fraud and extortion.

Or the subjects may create "sensitive" images and video clips of the victim to manipulate and threaten the victim. The purpose of the subjects is to threaten, defame, insult their dignity and blackmail, forcing the victim to transfer money as requested.

According to Ho Chi Minh City Police, online fraud is increasingly common on social networks such as Facebook, Telegram, WhatsApp, Instagram, Linkedln and email. Pornographic videos and images created with "Deepfake" can destroy the reputation and life of the victim. Therefore, people should be careful not to fall into the trap...
