Huynh Nguyen Vinh (22 years old), assistant lecturer of the department of business and international trade at the Foreign Trade University (HCMC campus) is not only handsome but also has excellent academic achievements.

Vinh is a member of the non-governmental organization Pacific Links Foundation (USA) with the role of teaching English to children.

Handsome teaching assistant with many achievements

In early October 2023, Vinh graduated with honors with a GPA of 3.96/4 and became the valedictorian of the 58th class, majoring in foreign economics at the Foreign Trade University. Vinh was then retained by the school as a teaching assistant in the subject of international business and trade. While still a student at Binh Son High School (Quang Ngai province), Vinh won a silver medal in the national Violympic Math (internet math competition) in 2017. And after becoming a student at the Foreign Trade University, Vinh continued to achieve many outstanding achievements in his studies and actively participated in movement activities such as: winning the title of "5 Good Students" at the Ho Chi Minh City level in 2022; receiving a scholarship to encourage studying for 6 consecutive semesters at the Foreign Trade University.

“When I became a teaching assistant at a very young age, I encountered many challenges. This position requires a lot of knowledge and skills. I also learned from the lecturers to improve myself,” Vinh said. Besides the difficulties, Vinh said there were also advantages, such as being the same age as the students, so it was easy to understand the psychology and behavior of students in dealing with issues related to studying.

Teaching English to Children

In addition to teaching as a university assistant, Vinh has also volunteered for the Pacific Links Foundation, teaching English to children, for eight years.

“I support children of secondary school age from 8 provinces in the Central region (Quang Binh, Quang Tri, Thua Thien Hue, Da Nang, Quang Nam, Quang Ngai, Binh Dinh, Phu Yen) and provinces in the Mekong Delta. Due to difficult family circumstances and being immature and not mature in thinking, they have been lured into working abroad or are at risk of becoming victims of human trafficking,” Vinh said. With an IELTS certificate of 7.0, English proficiency is not a big problem for Vinh in teaching children. The difficulty for this young man lies in helping children who have been lured into working abroad or are at risk of becoming victims of human trafficking regain confidence in themselves. Vinh said that it is necessary to create a safe and trustworthy environment for these children to share their stories and feelings.

Not only handsome and good at studying, Huynh Nguyen Vinh also actively participates in extracurricular activities and scientific research.
