Patient Y. was admitted to the hospital in a state of blood-soaked condition, with deep wounds in the pelvis, groin, buttocks and left thigh, causing heartache to anyone who witnessed it.
“As soon as she was brought to the Emergency Department, the young girl who had just experienced a terrible traffic accident opened her eyes slightly and said in a weak voice, 'Doctor, please give me some ice water... I'm so thirsty...',” said Dr. Nguyen Hoang Viet, Orthopedic Trauma Department, Xuyen A Tay Ninh General Hospital, on April 11.
Those words in her delirium made the doctors even more determined to save her life.
Critical accident, heart rate stopped in the emergency room
Doctor Viet said that as soon as the patient was admitted, the doctors quickly determined that the patient's condition was extremely critical. In just a split second, the young girl's heartbeat slowed down. The entire emergency room seemed to hold its breath before the life-or-death moment. The doctors and nurses rushed into the battle to save the patient's life. Cardiopulmonary resuscitation was performed urgently, each minute passing in extreme tension. And then, a glimmer of hope appeared, the girl's heartbeat started again.

MSCT scan results showed severe injuries such as multiple fractures of the iliac bone, left acetabulum, right suprapubic ramus, coccyx fracture, bladder rupture, pelvic-perineal emphysema, and many serious soft tissue injuries. This was a complex trauma case, requiring the coordination of many specialties to save the patient's life.
With the in-hospital red alert procedure activated beforehand, doctors from many specialties were present. At the Emergency Department, an urgent consultation between the specialties: Emergency, Orthopedic Trauma, Urology, General Surgery, ICU, Anesthesia and Resuscitation, etc. took place. The emergency surgery plan was quickly agreed upon.
Undergone many stressful surgeries
In the operating room, three surgical teams worked closely together to perform many important interventions in the same surgery. After many stressful hours, the surgery was successful. After the surgery, the young girl was transferred to the Intensive Care Unit for further monitoring.
Three days after surgery, the girl gradually recovered and was transferred to the Orthopedic Trauma Department for further treatment. Up to now, the female patient has stabilized, opening up the opportunity for a full recovery in the near future.
Through this case, Dr. Viet also recommends that people participating in traffic must comply with traffic laws, especially pay attention to speed and safe distance to avoid unfortunate accidents. If unfortunately injured, quickly call an ambulance to take the victim to a medical facility with full expertise for timely emergency care, increasing the chance of survival and recovery.
