Ben Thuy Bridge I

The Lam River originates from the Xieng Khouang plateau of Laos, the main part flows through Nghe An, the last part merges with the La River from Ha Tinh and flows into the Gulf of Tonkin at Cua Hoi. The river is about 520 km long, the part flowing through Vietnam is about 360 km.
Ben Thuy I Bridge is 630.5 m long, 12 m wide, with 13 spans, connecting Ben Thuy ward, Vinh city (Nghe An) with Xuan An town, Nghi Xuan district (Ha Tinh) in the north-south direction. The project was built in 1986 and inaugurated in 1990. This is the first road bridge across Lam river, the second largest in the country.
Previously, people on both sides of the Lam River had to cross by wooden boats, three ferry piers and a pontoon bridge. The transport sector and generations of leaders of Nghe An and Ha Tinh provinces all considered Ben Thuy I Bridge a project of the century, contributing to the socio-economic development of Nghe Tinh region as well as the central provinces at that time.
