Awarding the Certificate of Merit to Martyr Phan Van Nam

BTO-At Vu Hoa commune (Duc Linh), the Provincial Military Command has just held a ceremony to announce the Prime Minister's decision to grant the Certificate of Merit to martyr Phan Van Nam - an outstanding son who heroically sacrificed for the cause of national liberation. Attending the ceremony were leaders of the District Party Committee, Duc Linh District People's Committee, leaders of Vu Hoa commune and relatives of the martyr living in Vu Hoa commune.

Comrade Phan Van Nam was born in 1951, in a peasant family with a rich revolutionary tradition in Thanh Thoi commune, Mo Cay district, Ben Tre province. In 1968, at the age of 17, he joined the revolution and was entrusted by his superiors with the task of a commando soldier in the Commando Company, Ben Tre Provincial Military Command. During the course of his mission, he infiltrated the enemy's military base, creating conditions for his teammates to destroy thousands of tons of weapons and thousands of liters of enemy gasoline.

He and his comrades were also the vanguard troops in clearing mines, destroying fences and barbed wire, creating favorable conditions for our army to attack the enemy, winning many glorious victories and destroying the enemy. In May 1969, he and his comrades attacked Cay Diep Fort, Giong Trom District, Ben Tre Province. Due to the unequal battle, comrade Phan Van Nam heroically sacrificed himself. In recognition of these contributions, on February 26, 2025, the Prime Minister signed Decision No. 437/QD-TTg on granting the "Fatherland's Gratitude" Certificate to Martyr Phan Van Nam.

At the ceremony, Colonel Tran Dong Thanh - Deputy Political Commissar of the Provincial Military Command affirmed that Comrade Phan Van Nam had devoted his whole life to the revolutionary cause of the Party and the nation. Comrade Phan Van Nam's spirit clearly demonstrated the good qualities of a Communist, of an "Uncle Ho's Soldier"; always upholding the revolutionary and offensive spirit; solidarity, attachment, together with comrades and teammates overcoming all sacrifices and hardships, excellently completing all assigned tasks. Promoting that spirit, officers and soldiers of the provincial armed forces will continue to strengthen solidarity, vowing to do their best with the revolutionary offensive spirit, overcoming difficulties and challenges, striving to excellently complete assigned tasks.
