TPO – With an investment of more than 600 billion VND and put into use on April 30 but then had to be “fenced off” for completion, on the occasion of National Day September 2, the two intersections of Thieu Giang and Dong Thang on the Mai Son – National Highway 45 were officially opened to traffic.

After more than 1 year of construction, two additional intersections for the Mai Son (Ninh Binh) - National Highway 45 (Thanh Hoa) phase 1, Thieu Giang (investment of more than 450 billion VND) and Dong Thang (investment of more than 150 billion VND) have been completed and officially opened to traffic. |

At Thieu Giang intersection (Thieu Hoa district, Thanh Hoa), vehicles from the expressway can now easily access national highways (QL1, QL45) and provincial roads through the intersection. |

The completion of Thieu Giang intersection will also help vehicles from Hanoi to the districts of Thieu Hoa, Hoang Hoa, Tho Xuan, Yen Dinh... (and vice versa) to be the closest. |

Along with that, the completion of Thieu Giang intersection also helps reduce the density of vehicles gathering at Dong Xuan intersection (Thanh Hoa center) before spreading out in different directions, causing difficulties for travel during holidays. |

At Dong Thang intersection (Trieu Son district, Thanh Hoa), vehicles from the highway are also conveniently accessing Trieu Son, Nong Cong, Tinh Gia districts... |

Dong Thang intersection is the 7th (last) intersection on the main route of Mai Son – QL45 highway. |

After a period of construction, Dong Thang intersection has completed construction and has signs from a distance for easy vehicle access. |

Although the construction of the main intersection has been completed, the toll station at the two intersections of Thieu Giang and Dong Thang is still vacant (not built yet). |

After the two intersections were put into operation, an inconvenience arose as the sign (“EXIT”) restricting the speed to 60km when approaching the intersection was placed too suddenly and far from the intersection. Many drivers said that when vehicles were traveling at a maximum speed of 90km/h, many people were surprised to see the 60km/h sign. Therefore, many opinions said that there should be appropriate speed reduction signs so that drivers would not be surprised and avoid the risk of accidents. |
According to the design, the entire Mai Son - National Highway 45 expressway has a total of 7 interchanges, of which phase 1 will open to traffic in September 2023 with 5 interchanges - including: Mai Son interchange, Dong Giao interchange (in Ninh Binh province); Gia Mieu interchange, Ha Linh interchange, Dong Xuan interchange (in Thanh Hoa province).
Phase 2 of the project will build two more intersections: Thieu Giang and Dong Thang (Thanh Hoa province). However, in order to further promote the investment efficiency of the North-South Expressway phase 1 and promote local socio-economic development, the Thanh Hoa Provincial People's Committee has proposed to the Government and the Ministry of Transport to immediately implement and complete these two intersections from phase 1.
The Mai Son - National Highway 45 expressway project is over 63 km long with a total investment of over 12,000 billion VND. The project was opened to traffic in the third quarter of 2023.
