On the morning of November 13, a representative of the Kien Giang Province Traffic Construction Investment Project Management Board (PMU) said that the Rach Gia Passenger Port project is speeding up construction progress and will put phase 1 into temporary use before December 31, 2024.
Phase 2, including the terminal and other ancillary items, will be completed in 2025.
The contractor is urgently constructing the remaining items.
Currently, the remaining work of phase 1 is to install the electrical transformer station system, electric poles, build drainage culverts and sidewalks.
The contractor is also completing the asphalt concrete paving, gravel mixing for the main road, the secondary road leading to the port, using rollers to mix the gravel and other auxiliary items. The progress is currently over 80%.
The Rach Gia Passenger Port Project (Kien Giang Province) was started in 2019 (phase 2019 - 2024), with a total initial investment of 410 billion VND, from the local budget. However, after many adjustments, the project has increased the investment capital to 488 billion VND.
Previously, on November 10, Chairman of Kien Giang Provincial People's Committee - Lam Minh Thanh and the delegation went to inspect the actual situation and highly appreciated the sense of responsibility and determination of the relevant parties to overcome all difficulties to speed up the progress of this project.
The port is expected to be put into use on December 31.
The Chairman of the People's Committee of Kien Giang province also requested the contractor Truong Son to speed up the progress, ensure technical standards and quality of the project, and soon complete and put phase 1 into use by the end of 2024.
Mr. Chau Hung Ky, Director of the Management Board of Traffic Construction Projects of Kien Giang province, also requested the contractor to further increase time, human resources, machinery and equipment to speed up the progress of the remaining part of the project.
Rach Gia Passenger Port is planned with a land and water surface area of about 34.96 hectares. The construction items include wharf, ferry terminal, station, parking lot, commercial area, shophouse, internal road, technical infrastructure.
The port is calculated and designed to accommodate an expected passenger volume of approximately 2,320,000 by 2030.
The purpose of building Rach Gia Passenger Port is due to the increasing demand for passenger travel to the islands: Phu Quoc, Nam Du, Lai Son, Hon Tre, especially during peak times on holidays, Tet, etc.
