Estimated retail sales of goods reached VND25,894 billion, up 12% over the same period. In particular, the groups of goods with increased retail sales include: cultural and educational items; wood and construction materials; automobiles of all kinds; means of transport; other goods; repair of motor vehicles, motorcycles, motorbikes and motor vehicles increased.
Groups of goods with reduced retail sales include: food; apparel; household appliances, tools, and equipment; gasoline of all kinds; other fuels (except gasoline and oil); precious stones, precious metals, and products.
Revenue from accommodation, catering and tourism services is estimated at VND7,067 billion, up more than 12% over the same period last year.
According to the Department of Industry and Trade, in the first quarter of 2025, the commodity market was relatively stable, consumer demand for food, foodstuffs, clothing, household appliances, tools, and equipment decreased significantly in the second half of February and March because people mainly focused on purchasing these items in the period before Tet.
In addition, the weather is stable, favorable for agricultural production, the supply of vegetables and fruits is abundant, and prices do not fluctuate much. After Tet, the market's consumption of food items such as chicken and poultry eggs is slow, people reduce spending due to economic difficulties... while the supply increases, so the prices of these items tend to decrease. Due to the impact of world prices, the prices of some energy fuel items such as gasoline, liquefied petroleum gas have increased and decreased alternately.
The Department of Industry and Trade said that in the coming time, the Department will continue to coordinate with localities to closely monitor the market situation, effectively implement market stabilization programs, organize connections between distribution enterprises and sources of goods in each locality, and fully restore the operation of traditional and wholesale markets to ensure balance of supply and demand of essential goods.
At the same time, continue to organize propaganda to implement the Campaign "Vietnamese people prioritize using Vietnamese goods"; direct and create all favorable conditions for local enterprises to promote production and business, bring goods, especially essential goods to rural, remote and isolated areas.
In addition, the Department of Industry and Trade also encourages businesses to effectively implement the market stabilization program, combining the sale of stabilized goods at fixed points of sale with mobile points of sale in industrial parks, export processing zones, rural areas, remote areas, and border areas.
