Honey is often considered a completely natural sweetener that can replace table sugar and also has additional antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties.

Currently, many information on social networks claim that using honey can neutralize the health benefits of honey, such as adding honey to hot tea, coffee or other hot liquids will destroy the beneficial properties and release toxins.
Some nutritionists are starting to speak out. “There’s a lot of misinformation about honey on the internet and social media,” says Julie Stefanski, a Baltimore-based nutritionist and spokesperson for the Academy of Nutrition & Dietetics.
5 misconceptions about honey:
1. Pouring honey into hot tea will release toxins
Some social media users claim that pouring honey into hot water or heating honey above 284°F (140°C) will release toxins or poisons, but there is currently no evidence.
According to Dr. Donald W. Schaffner - professor emeritus, agricultural extension specialist and head of the food science department at Rutgers University: "There has been no case of people being poisoned by adding honey to tea or coffee. If honey contained toxins, it would not be allowed to be sold on the market."
2. It is not safe to stir honey with a metal spoon.
Using a regular stainless steel metal spoon will not spoil the honey and there is no need to buy a wooden spoon to stir honey with tea or coffee.
Metals like silver and platinum can cause hydrogen peroxide, an antibacterial ingredient in honey, to break down into water and oxygen, according to Dr. Schaffner. But most people don't stir honey with silver or platinum spoons, so this isn't a concern, he said.
3. Honey can cure allergies
Because the differences in allergens vary from person to person and from region to region, honey by its very nature is incapable of preventing or curing seasonal allergies.
4. Honey can heal wounds
Honey must be medical grade and specially processed for contact with wounds and burns. Otherwise, it will aggravate the wound due to secondary infection.
5. Honey is healthier than sugar
“Healthy” recipes often recommend using honey instead of table sugar. While honey is considered a better choice than other sweeteners, it is not necessarily optimal for your health.
"Whether the sweetener is natural (honey or fruit sugar) or refined (table sugar or corn syrup), it's all carbohydrates," says Stefanski.
