Relocating 54,000 graves at Binh Hung Hoa cemetery to implement Ho Chi Minh City's key project in investing in school and park infrastructure by 2025.

Binh Hung Hoa Cemetery (Binh Tan District) is over 40 hectares wide, built before 1975 with about 54,000 graves. This is one of the key projects in the area that needs to be relocated with the goal of investing in infrastructure, schools, and parks on this land by 2025.

The area on the right side of Tan Ky Tan Quy Street (from Tan Phu District to Binh Tan District) has been cleared, and is overgrown with green grass. On this land, Binh Tan District plans to build a 30-room primary school.

Inside, the crematorium is still operating next to the land planned to build an elementary school. Vice Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Bui Xuan Cuong has directed the Department of Natural Resources and Environment to coordinate with Binh Tan District to propose an early relocation.

On the other side, phase 2 with 4,239 graves has also basically completed relocation. Phase 3 is expected to be completed in 2025.

And here is the land (gradually excavating graves) where a secondary school with 41 classrooms will be built. During the clearance process, many graves without declared relatives were excavated by the district.

In the Binh Hung Hoa cemetery relocation project area, there are 104 households whose houses and land are affected.

Living in the phase 3 relocation area, Ms. Truong Thi Hung (70 years old) has been busy cleaning graves and helping visitors burn incense during holidays and Tet. She feels sad about having to change jobs but also hopes that the project will be implemented soon, helping to change the appearance of this area.

The cemetery is also a place for cows to graze, many people come to fish and catch birds to relax on the weekend.

The Binh Hung Hoa cemetery relocation project aims to improve the living environment for more than 300,000 people in the surrounding area, contributing to the urban beautification and renovation, and resolving the complicated situation of security and order. Binh Tan district is speeding up the progress to complete the entire project by April 30, 2025.
