Thanks to his diligence in learning and applying scientific and technical advances in production, each year Mr. Tran Van Oi's family in Huu Loi hamlet, Binh Trung commune, Chau Thanh district (Tien Giang province) has an income of billions of dong from the model of growing durian intercropped with guava trees.

When he first started his business, he and his wife only had 1.5 hectares of land to grow crops, and the family's economy was still facing many difficulties due to unstable vegetable prices.

But thanks to his diligence and hard work, his family gradually accumulated a little capital and began to buy more land to grow fruit trees.

Just like that, after many years, the couple had a total of 9.5 hectares of land, including 5 hectares of land growing 10-year-old durian, 3 hectares of land growing 2-year-old durian interspersed with guava trees, and 1.5 hectares of land growing coconut trees.

According to Mr. Oi, compared to growing longan, sapodilla or star apple like before, growing durian and guava has higher economic value.

On average, a year from the durian garden intercropped with guava, his family earns over 1 billion VND in revenue. With just 3 hectares of guava intercropped with durian, he harvests about 300 kg per week. With the current selling price of 8,000 VND/kg, his family earns nearly 2.5 million VND per crop.

Mr. Tran Van Oi, Huu Loi Hamlet, Binh Trung Commune, Chau Thanh District (Tien Giang Province) with the model of growing durian intercropped with guava trees earns billions.

To help the durian garden grow well and produce high yields, Mr. Oi actively participated in training courses and technology transfer organized by the Commune Farmers' Association and went online to learn more about care experiences.

Mr. Oi said: over time, the durian canopy becomes wider and the yield also increases gradually. When durian is in the commercial stage, it is necessary to pay attention to fertilizing and watering in the right dosage and time, especially during the flowering and fruiting stages, only then can high yield be achieved.

In recent years, not only focusing on developing the family economy, Mr. Oi has also actively participated in social activities and movements launched by the locality, especially the movement "Farmers compete in good production and business, unite to help each other get rich and sustainably reduce poverty".

To achieve the success they have today, Mr. Oi and his wife have gone through many difficulties and hardships, but with the will to not be afraid of difficulties and hardships, he has searched for a suitable and right-oriented production model to bring good results for the family economy and raise his children to be successful.

Mr. Oi deserves to be a typical farmer, a role model in local economic development for everyone to learn from and follow.
