From 6am on February 4 (the 7th day of the first lunar month), villagers spread carpets and mats along the procession of the village's tutelary god during the La Phu Festival with the purpose of "asking for blessings to pray for peace and luck...
The mat is spread along the main axis of La Phu commune, from La Phu communal house (La Phu commune, Hoai Duc district) to Quan Chay temple (Dong La commune, Hoai Duc district). This is also the road that the Saint's palanquin passes through.
At around 7am, nearly 3km of carpets and flower mats were laid out at the festival.
Besides spreading out flower mats to "ask for luck", villagers also set up trays of offerings and incense altars in front of their houses and alleys.
The representative of the La Phu Festival Organizing Committee said that every year after Tet, the villagers are busy preparing to organize the festival. This is also an opportunity for the villagers to remember the merits of Tinh Quoc Tam Lang under the reign of Hung Due Vuong the 6th who fought the enemy to protect the border.
On January 7th, the birthday of the village's tutelary god, La Phu people organized a procession of the Saint from La Phu communal house to Quan Chay temple, which is said to be his tomb, to hold a "welcoming" ceremony, which means asking to bring him back to the Upper temple so that people can worship, offer gifts to show their respect and pray for a peaceful new year.
The procession of the Saint's palanquin in La Phu is held every five years, so everyone in La Phu village is excited and eager.
According to the local people’s belief for generations, when the Saint’s palanquin is carried on the main road of the village, families set up trays of offerings, incense altars and spread flower mats on the road for the Saint’s palanquin to pass. People sincerely worship and pray for peace, fortune, luck, etc. for their families.
