Li Juhong's childhood in Chongqing, China was traumatic. One day in March 1983, Juhong, then 4 years old, was on her way to kindergarten when she was hit by a truck. The collision left her trapped under the truck. Because her injuries were so severe, doctors had to amputate her legs. After the surgery, Juhong's legs were less than 3cm long.

Ly Cuc Hong, despite her young age, is extremely resilient. At the age of 8, she learned to walk by supporting her body with her hands. She also used wooden chairs to help her move.

At that age, Ly Cuc Hong had surprisingly mature thoughts. She was determined to become a doctor to help other disadvantaged people. Since then, she has been studying hard and making constant efforts.

In 2001, Li Juhong graduated from a university in Chongqing with a medical degree. A year later, she applied for a job at the medical office of Wadian Village, Qingping Town, Hechuan District, Chongqing City. She then met and married Liu Xingyan. Her husband later quit his job at the factory to help his wife with housework.

Every day, Ly Cuc Hong wakes up at 7am, feeds her children and gets ready for work. She uses a wooden chair to get to work, so it takes her about 30 minutes each time. Her working hours at the clinic are from 8:30am to 12:30pm.

Every afternoon, she examines the elderly at home for free. In her hometown, one-fifth of the population is over 60 years old. Ly Cuc Hong shared: “ I do two jobs every day. One is working at the clinic. The other is examining at home. I am in charge of medical care for 2,000 people. I don’t have a fixed schedule. Sometimes patients come at 6-7am. Sometimes, at 9-10pm, patients still come.”

Cuc Hong's husband often takes advantage of his free time to carry his wife to visit patients who have difficulty moving.

Over the past 20 years, Ly Cuc Hong has worn out more than 30 wooden chairs and examined more than 6,000 people. Because she provides free medical examinations, Ly Cuc Hong is very much loved by the people. Every time they meet her, they say thank you. Sometimes, they give her homegrown vegetables and food.
