Ha Thi Linh defeated Latvian boxer.

On the morning of March 14, Ha Thi Linh defeated Latvian boxer Jekaterina Sorokina in the quarter-finals of the 60-65 kg weight class. The athlete born in 1993 is the only member of the Vietnamese team to win a medal at the 2025 Women's World Boxing Championship, taking place in Serbia.

Compared to Jekaterina Sorokina, Ha Thi Linh has more experience. The Latvian boxer was born in 2004 and has only competed in international amateur tournaments (Olympic format, not professional boxing) for about a year. After 3 rounds, Ha Thi Linh won by split decision. Four judges scored the Vietnamese athlete as the winner. Meanwhile, only the Estonian referee scored Jekaterina Sorokina as the winner.

Ha Thi Linh has qualified for the semi-finals and is certain to win a medal. The prize money that the 32-year-old boxer has earned so far is 25,000 USD (more than 600 million VND). This amount will increase significantly if Ha Thi Linh continues to win and participate in the final match.

In the semi-finals, Ha Thi Linh's opponent is Somnuek Thananya (Thailand). This athlete won a bronze medal at the 19th ASIAD (Hangzhou, China) in 2022 and a bronze medal at the 2024 Asian Championship.

The match between Ha Thi Linh and Somnuek Thananya takes place tonight, the morning of March 15.
