Medical school admissions do not consider Chemistry and Biology scores

NDO - Many years ago, to apply for admission to the medical field, candidates often had to take a combination of natural sciences such as Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology. However, in the past 2-3 years, some universities training in the medical and pharmaceutical fields have expanded the admission block to not include Chemistry and Biology, creating conditions for candidates to choose a major that suits their abilities.

With a daughter about to enter grade 11, Ms. Le Thi Huong Lan (living in Hai Ba Trung district, Hanoi) wondered: "My family wants my child to follow in the footsteps of the medical profession, however, her strength is not in natural sciences. So is there any major in medical school that considers combinations other than B00 (Math, Chemistry, Biology)?"

With the same question, Mai Anh, a 12th grade student at Thach That High School (Hanoi) shared that, in addition to reviewing for the entrance exam to the nutrition major, she wants to find a few more majors that do not consider Chemistry and Biology scores to have more chances of being admitted.

Most candidates applying for medical, dental, rehabilitation engineering, etc. majors must take the B00 combination, which includes three subjects: Mathematics, Chemistry, and Biology. However, candidates who are not strong in these subjects but still want to go to medical school can choose other majors with the appropriate combination to their abilities.

At Hanoi Medical University, the main majors are recruited based on the B00 combination (Math, Chemistry, Biology). However, from 2024, there will be two new majors that will recruit based on other combinations: Public Health based on the D01 group (Math, Literature, English) and Psychology based on the D01 and C00 group (Literature, History, Geography).

The 2025 enrollment plan of Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy shows that, in addition to the Medical major, which only recruits according to the B00 combination, the remaining majors will also recruit the A00 combination (Math, Physics, Chemistry). Thus, although many majors do not consider Biology scores, candidates still have to focus on Chemistry if they want to be admitted to this school.

This year, Tokyo Medical University Vietnam uses the A01 combination (Math, Physics, English) to enroll students in the following majors: Nursing, Rehabilitation Technology, Medical Laboratory Technology, Medical Imaging Technology and Pharmacy.

Similarly, Thai Binh University of Medicine and Pharmacy also uses combination A01 (Math, Physics, English) for admission to Pharmacy, in addition to combination A00 (Math, Physics, Chemistry) and D07 (Math, Chemistry, English).

Meanwhile, all majors at the University of Public Health are recruiting for additional combinations other than B00 (Math, Chemistry, Biology). In 2024, the school will recruit more candidates taking the D01 combination exam to recruit for the following majors: Public Health, Nutrition, Rehabilitation Engineering, Data Science, and Social Work.

For Social Work, students who wish to apply to the combination C00 (Literature, History, Geography) and D66 (Literature, English, Civic Education) can apply for this major.

In addition, this year, the University of Medicine and Pharmacy of Danang University also plans to enroll two new majors: Pharmaceutical Chemistry with combination A01 (Math, Physics, English) and Psychology (clinical orientation) with combination D01 (Math, Literature, English).
