Balanced fertilization, saving 15% of costs

PetroVietnam Fertilizer and Chemicals Corporation (PVFCCo - Phu My fertilizer manufacturer and trader) said that this enterprise, in collaboration with the Central Highlands Soil, Fertilizer and Environment Research Center (Institute of Soil and Fertilizer Agrochemistry), implemented a model of using Phu My fertilizer on coffee trees at the family of Ms. Do Thi Nga (Loc Thang town, Bao Lam district, Lam Dong province).

Here, 0.5 hectares of coffee are used with nitrogen, NPK and Phu My potassium fertilizer. According to a representative of PVFCCo, in this model, agricultural experts analyze pH, organic matter, nitrogen and potassium indicators and a series of other factors to come up with a balanced and reasonable fertilization method. Fertilization is also carried out according to each growth stage and the needs of the crop.

Ms. Do Thi Nga, the model owner, said that so far, the family has organized 4 fertilization sessions and have finished them to prepare for the harvest. “ A month after the first fertilization session, I saw that the trees in the garden had developed many fibrous roots. Up to now, all the trees in the garden have grown strongly, with long branches, thick leaves, and few pests. In particular, the fruits are large, even, and do not fall off like before ,” Ms. Nga said.

According to Ms. Nga, in the past, the family organized production in a traditional way, without specific analysis, so the garden easily fell into a state of lack or excess of fertilizer. This led to uneven growth of the plants, low productivity and quality.

Currently, experts regularly check and evaluate, so families can grasp the nutritional needs of plants and come up with a balanced fertilization method. This fertilization method also contributes to making the soil loose and retain moisture better, ” Ms. Nga confided, adding that with this fertilization process, the family saves 10-15% of costs compared to the traditional method.

Restore “health” to the soil

Mr. Luong Duc Tri, an agricultural expert from the Central Highlands Soil, Fertilizer and Environment Research Center, commented: “ After a period of monitoring, we found that the application of new technical measures combined with the use of Phu My NPK and Phu My potassium fertilizers helped Mrs. Nga’s coffee garden achieve high efficiency. In addition to giving a 20% higher yield than the control model, the trees develop strong reserve branches, so the fruit set rate for the next crop will be very high .”

According to Mr. Tri, in this model, the size and weight of coffee beans increased by 13 - 19%, pests and diseases decreased by 20 - 25% compared to the control model, helping to significantly reduce costs due to the use of pesticides, thereby contributing to protecting the ecological environment and the health of producers. In particular, the quality of the garden soil was significantly improved.

Before implementing the model, the garden soil tended to have less nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, etc. Up to now, after a short time implementing the model, the garden soil has gradually become balanced in nutrition. This is a highly effective model and we hope that local coffee gardens will refer to and replicate it. This will contribute to improving the soil, stabilizing production, improving product quality and increasing income ,” Mr. Luong Duc Tri shared.

Currently, Ms. Do Thi Nga's family's coffee garden is growing strongly, with pests and diseases reduced by 20 - 25% compared to the control model.

For nearly 20 years, the Corporation has always provided quality products to the market. Along with that, the enterprise also offers technical solutions for farmers to apply in cultivation to increase productivity, save input costs and produce safely, effectively, minimize negative impacts on the ecological environment, contributing to the development orientation of "green agriculture" and reducing emissions.

Regarding the model of using Phu My fertilizer on coffee trees at Ms. Do Thi Nga’s family, Mr. Dang Huu Thang said that the growth index, tree height, number of fruits and yield were all higher than the control. This model also ensures savings in fertilizer costs.

Every year, PVFCCo organizes many field workshops to introduce models of balanced, reasonable and effective fertilizer use to people. In particular, PVFCCo also organizes cooperation between "4 houses" including scientists, the state, businesses and farmers to build models applying scientific and technical advances in fertilizer use to spread to the community.

Mr. Dang Huu Thang said that currently, PVFCCo is implementing 6 models of using Phu My fertilizer in the Central Highlands provinces with different types of crops.

Realizing cooperation on balanced and effective fertilizer use

Since October 2021, the Plant Protection Department (Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development) has organized a signing ceremony for a cooperation program on the safe, balanced and effective use of fertilizers and pesticides in sustainable agricultural production.

Accordingly, PetroVietnam Fertilizer and Chemicals Corporation (PVFCCo) - the manufacturer and trader of Phu My fertilizer is one of 15 leading enterprises selected and signed a cooperation agreement by the Plant Protection Department.

According to the signed content, the Plant Protection Department and PVFCCo will coordinate to organize dissemination, training, and guidance for farmers on the safe, balanced, and effective use of fertilizers in agricultural production; transfer and disseminate new scientific and technical advances, and knowledge to recognize and distinguish fake, poor-quality fertilizers, counterfeit goods, etc. on the market.

At the same time, organize dissemination, training, and guidance for agents and fertilizer trading establishments on current state documents and regulations in the field of fertilizers; techniques for preserving and using fertilizers safely, balanced, and effectively so that they can be applied and guided back to farmers when purchasing fertilizers for use.

In addition, implementing demonstration models of safe, balanced and effective fertilizer use on some key local crops to promote production and transfer technical farming processes to farmers for application. Thereby, creating a sustainable value chain in agricultural production towards a safe and sustainable agriculture, contributing to increasing income and improving the lives of farmers.
