Việt Nam•12/05/2024
In early May, heavy rains brought water to the terraced fields across the highlands of Lao Cai. The flood of water made the terraced fields seem to awaken after a long “sleep”. During the flooding season, the terraced fields in the highland villages of Y Ty and A Lu communes (Bat Xat district) are as beautiful as a giant painting. The beauty of terraced fields in Lung Khau Nhin commune, Muong Khuong district brings a sense of the greenness and prosperity of this land. The fields are full of water, ethnic minorities in the highlands of Bac Ha district together go to the fields to plow the new crop. The newly embanked fields are like wearing a new coat.
The most beautiful terraced fields in the flooding season are at dawn or sunset. At that time, the fields are full of water, reflecting many sparkling colors like giant mirrors of the sky. Farmers in the Bat Xat highlands eagerly go to the fields to plant rice in the flood season of May. Plowing and harvesting are the two happiest seasons of the year for farmers. Mong families in the highlands of Sa Pa town exchange labor with each other to urgently pull up seedlings and plant rice in time for the crop season.
The green color of new rice fields interspersed between the prepared steps creates a colorful picture. After the first rains of the season, the sun rose and the "river of clouds" appeared, making the terraced fields of A Lu commune, Bat Xat district even more pleasing to the eye. The paintings called terraced fields are masterpieces created by the hands of highland farmers over many generations.
Up to now, Lao Cai province has two terraced fields recognized by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism as National Monuments - scenic spots, including: the terraced fields in Muong Hoa valley (Sa Pa town) and the terraced fields in The Pa valley (Y Ty and A Lu communes (Bat Xat district).
