On April 9, Colonel Tran Ba Loc, Political Commissar of the Logistics Department of Military Region 9, said that three specialized ships with large capacity from 60 - 200 m3 of the Transport Brigade 659, under the Logistics Department of Military Region 9, carried 1,700 m3 of fresh water to supply people in Bien Bach commune, Thoi Binh district, Ca Mau province. The unit also donated hundreds of water tanks, barrels, and cans to poor and disadvantaged households so that people have more tools to store water for daily use.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Dam, a resident of Hamlet 18 (Bien Bach Commune, Thoi Binh District) said that this season, there is a shortage of water for daily use, so we have to buy water from boats at the price of 45,000 VND/ 1m3 , and if we use it sparingly, it will cost more than 1 million VND a month. "Now that the soldiers bring water to my house, my family is very happy. Such a gesture is truly worthy of the title of Uncle Ho's soldiers" - Ms. Nguyen Thi Dam said excitedly.
The 2024 drought season is taking place, Ca Mau has more than 2,600 households lacking water or not having access to fresh water for daily life, mainly concentrated in the fresh water districts of the province, such as: U Minh, Tran Van Thoi, Thoi Binh and Ca Mau city.
In Bien Bach commune of Thoi Binh district alone, 581 households lacked and could not take initiative in water sources for daily use, concentrated in hamlets 18, 11, Thanh Tung, and Truong Thoai. In particular, more than 400 households had to buy water for daily essential needs.
Mr. Nguyen Tien Ngoan, Commander of the Military Command of Bien Bach Commune, said that this is a practical action at the peak of the current dry season, contributing to solving the urgent needs of the people. According to the plan, in addition to Bien Bach Commune, Military Region 9 will continue to provide free clean water to people in Khanh Thuan Commune (U Minh District) and Khanh Binh Dong Commune (Tran Van Thoi District) in the coming days, contributing to sharing the difficulties of people in areas heavily affected by drought. Currently, local authorities in places receiving domestic water have plans to mobilize more resources to help Military Region 9 transport water to people's homes for use as soon as possible.
