Binh Phuoc welcomes 41 martyrs' remains back from Cambodia

On January 10, at Hoa Lu International Border Gate (Binh Phuoc), Binh Phuoc Provincial Steering Committee 515 held a ceremony to welcome the remains of martyrs and Team K72 back to the country, concluding the mission of searching and collecting the remains of martyrs who died in Cambodia and Loc Ninh district, phase 1, phase XXIV (dry season 2024-2025).

Colonel Thai Thanh Duc, Deputy Chief of Politics of Military Region 7, Deputy Head of Steering Committee 515 of Military Region; leaders of relevant departments, branches and sectors of the province and localities attended the welcoming ceremony.

This search and collection of martyrs' remains in Cambodia took place in Kratie and Kampong Thom provinces. Team K72 conducted a survey at 18 locations with 24,000m², 5,200 holes, and searched for more than 8km of trenches with a volume of about 30,000m³ of soil and rock. After 64 days of carrying out the mission, the team collected 41 martyrs' remains. In Loc Ninh district, the team found 129 martyrs' remains.

During the collection process, the team combined cleaning, wrapping and selecting biological samples. The authorities determined that it was possible to retrieve 9 biological samples from 41 martyrs' remains. The relics accompanying the martyrs' remains include: a belt, a leather wallet, a toothbrush, buttons, some pieces of electric wire, a comb, a glass bottle, a nail clipper, a medicine bottle, a bottle of essential oil, a belt, metal buttons and rusty bullet casings...

Colonel Pham Nhu Quan, Political Commissar of the Military Command, Deputy Head of the Standing Committee of the 515 Steering Committee of Binh Phuoc Province, acknowledged and commended the efforts and responsibility of Team K72 for successfully completing the mission. During this period, the officers and soldiers were always assured in their thoughts and determined their political tasks well; performed their tasks with the highest sense of responsibility, performed well the foreign defense tasks, and ensured absolute safety during the process of organizing the search and collection of martyrs' remains.

According to Colonel Pham Nhu Quan, the task of searching for martyrs' remains is very heavy but glorious, noble and sacred. He suggested that the Provincial Military Command direct Team K72 to continue collecting information, closely combining the task of searching, collecting and repatriating the remains of Vietnamese volunteer soldiers and experts who died in Cambodia with the task of searching and collecting martyrs' remains, especially in areas with a lot of information about martyrs and martyrs' graves.

After the welcoming ceremony, the martyrs' remains were brought to the Binh Phuoc Province Martyrs' Cemetery.
