Turn difficulties into strength, "speeding" to the new rural finish line

The journey to build new rural areas still has many challenges, but with the consensus of the government and people, Son Dong aims to escape the list of poor districts by 2025, bringing this low-lying area to rise strongly.

Spirit of determination and comprehensive action

Starting from a low starting point, Son Dong encountered many difficulties. As a remote mountainous district, Son Dong not only faced difficult terrain conditions but also had to solve problems with basic infrastructure, low income and persistent poverty. However, with high determination from the Party Committee, government and consensus of the people, the program of building new rural areas has brought about positive changes.

In 2021, the district issued Resolution No. 27-NQ/HU, marking a turning point in the development journey. This decision not only sets out specific tasks but also emphasizes the need for close supervision and direction from the commune to the district level to ensure that all resources are used effectively.

One of the important factors contributing to the success is the flexibility in budget allocation, prioritizing disadvantaged communes such as Long Son to complete the NTM criteria according to plan. In addition, propaganda work was also widely deployed, with the aim of raising awareness among officials and people, helping them better understand the meaning and benefits of the NTM program.

To carry out the large volume of work in the 2021-2025 period, Son Dong has identified three key tasks.

The first is the adjustment and supplementation of the socio-economic development planning and land use planning. The completion of this planning not only creates the basis for infrastructure development but also guides the development of agriculture and production in communes that have not yet met the NTM standards.

Second, the district has focused on building infrastructure, especially roads, schools, and cultural facilities. Improving the quality of infrastructure helps improve the material and spiritual life of the people, while promoting economic activities such as production and trade of goods.

Third, the district has focused on developing sustainable agricultural production, improving production organization models and linking agricultural product consumption. Many communes have implemented cooperative economic models, creating conditions for people to increase income and sustainably reduce poverty.

Son Dong "harvests sweet fruits", racing towards the NTM finish line

The efforts of the government and people of Son Dong district have brought many "sweet fruits". In early 2024, two communes, Duong Huu and Yen Dinh, were recognized as meeting the NTM standards. The district strives to have two more communes, Dai Son and Vinh An, completing the NTM criteria by the end of the year, bringing the total number of communes meeting the NTM standards to 6 communes (40% of the total number of communes in the district).

The district aims to achieve 250 criteria by 2025, with an average of 16.6 criteria per commune. Notably, no commune in the district achieves less than 13 criteria, demonstrating the uniformity in development and continuous efforts of all localities.

In particular, the district has launched a plan to build six villages in extremely disadvantaged communes to meet the standards of new rural villages, including Kim Bang village (An Lac commune), Thanh Tra village (Le Vien commune), and Ga village (Thanh Luan commune). This is one of the important steps to narrow the development gap between regions and ensure that all people benefit from the program.

Despite many positive results, Son Dong district still faces many challenges. The first problem is that capital allocated from the central and provincial governments often arrives late, making it difficult to implement infrastructure projects as planned. In addition, mobilizing social capital to support especially disadvantaged communes also faces many obstacles due to poor economic conditions.

Planning in some localities is still inconsistent and not in line with the socio-economic development orientation of the region. Some areas also face difficulties in handling garbage and household waste, affecting the living environment of the people.

Furthermore, the organization of agricultural production has not been sustainably linked, making it difficult to find outlets for products. Some localities have only focused on developing infrastructure, without paying due attention to building cultural life and protecting the environment.

Mr. Le Duc Thang, Standing Vice Chairman of the People's Committee, Chief of the Office of New Rural Area Coordination of Son Dong District, said that from now until the end of the year, Son Dong District will continue to focus on removing difficulties for localities, especially supporting Vinh An and Dai Son communes to complete the New Rural Area criteria. The remaining communes will also be directed to complete the registered criteria on schedule.

The district will review and evaluate the current status of new rural construction to promptly adjust the plan, ensuring the feasibility and effectiveness of the program. At the same time, the district also requests provincial agencies to provide timely capital support to meet the urgent development needs of the district.

The new rural development program has brought positive changes to Son Dong, from basic infrastructure to people's lives. However, this journey is still long and requires continuous efforts from both the political system and the people. With determination and the right direction, Son Dong can completely achieve the goal of escaping poverty by 2025, contributing to the sustainable development of Bac Giang province.
