The Joint Stock Commercial Bank for Investment and Development of Vietnam (BIDV) has just been honored as the "Best issuer for sustainable finance in Vietnam 2024" and the "Best green bond transaction in Vietnam 2024". These are awards in the Sustainable Finance category of the Triple A Awards system of The Asset Magazine (Hong Kong). The awards recognize BIDV's pioneering role, high level of trust in its capacity and reputation in the capital market when successfully issuing VND 2,500 billion of bonds in compliance with the green bond principles of the International Capital Market Association - ICMA, making BIDV the first bank to issue green bonds according to international principles in Vietnam.

BIDV honored in the field of sustainable finance

BIDV's bond issuance is also the first green bond issuance in Vietnam with an unsecured structure, no secondary debt and no payment guarantee, demonstrating a high level of trust in the capacity and reputation of the issuer. BIDV's green bond framework has been independently assessed by Moody's International Ratings and scored at SQS2 (very good), thereby confirming BIDV's high level of compliance and transparency in issuing and managing the bond after issuance, ensuring that green bond capital is used for the committed purposes. At the COP 26 Conference, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh made a commitment that Vietnam will achieve net zero emissions by 2050. To implement this commitment, the Government has issued the National Strategy on Green Growth for the period 2021 - 2030, with a vision to 2050. In the trend of green development on a global and national scale, BIDV believes that Green Bonds will be a necessary capital channel with large growth potential in Vietnam to support the provision of sufficient investment capital for businesses, especially foreign capital. Therefore, BIDV has paid early attention to and focused on researching and implementing the issuance of Green Bonds. BIDV has a clear strategy on developing green banking and green credit, related to the requirement to promote green credit growth and manage environmental and social (ESG) risks in lending activities and is ready to finance customers operating in low-carbon and climate change-adapted sectors. Green bond capital will be an effective tool to increase the ability to implement the above strategy.
