Hai Phong City People's Committee has just agreed to stop Got ferry carrying passengers from the mainland to Cat Ba Island from March 1 to implement the international gateway port industrial park project.
Ferries operating at Got wharf will be transferred to Dong Bai wharf, which is being built by Cat Ba Sun Company Limited, about 4 km away. Hai Phong City People's Committee requested enterprises to urgently complete a number of items and conditions for Dong Bai ferry to be put into operation from March 1.
Hai Phong Waterway Traffic Assurance Joint Stock Company, the unit operating Got ferry, will coordinate with the Department of Transport and related units to organize a trial ferry run at Dong Bai ferry terminal; study the hiring of additional vehicles to ensure passenger transport capacity, avoiding congestion during peak times.

Got - Cai Vieng ferry terminal connects Cat Hai island district with Cat Ba island, a famous tourist area that attracts millions of visitors each year. Currently, Got ferry has 4 large ferries carrying 12 cars, 200 passengers; one self-propelled ferry carrying 9 cars, more than 100 passengers and 4 small ferries carrying 6 cars. Each ferry trip takes about 20 minutes.
For many years now, in the months of May and July, this ferry terminal has been frequently congested due to the small entrance and narrow wharf. Some measures have been put forward such as opening public bus routes, encouraging people to use cable cars, high-speed trains and stopping the transport of 4-7 seat cars and trucks on Saturdays and Sundays from May 6 to July 30, from 9am to 1pm, but they have not been effective.
