Wins by Real Madrid (1-0 vs Mallorca) and Girona (4-3 vs Atletico Madrid) have extended Barcelona's lead at the top of the table to 10 points. Xavi's side must win at Las Palmas to close the gap to seven points after the first leg of La Liga 2023-24.
Bringing the determination to win to Estadio de Gran Canaria, however, Barcelona was soon doused with "cold water" by the home team. In the 12th minute, Ramirez passed the ball from the right wing for Munir El Haddadi to rush down and score from about 6m away. The Las Palmas striker was one step quicker than goalkeeper Pena.

Barcelona were unable to fight back after losing the match, with the visitors only managing a few harmless shots in the first half. Xavi's side were worse than Las Palmas in the first half, but after the break, Barcelona were rewarded with good fortune.
In the 52nd minute, a chaotic situation occurred at the top of the Las Palmas penalty area. The home team's players could not clear the ball away. Torres quickly took a shot from the top of the penalty area. The ball did not go too hard, but goalkeeper Valles still let the ball slip through the net.
Barcelona managed to relieve the pressure by scoring the equalizer and played a sharp attack, unlike the first half. The visitors dominated the home team in the second half. However, despite having almost three times as many shots as in the first half, it was not until injury time that Barcelona got their second goal.
In the 90+1 minute, the referee judged that Sinkgraven had pushed Gundogan down when the German midfielder tried to head the ball near the left post, the home team's goal was empty. Barcelona received a penalty and Sinkgraven received a red card. On the 11m mark, Gundogan scored to make it 2-1.

Barcelona could have won by a bigger margin if Roque had not been so unlucky in the 6th minute of stoppage time. Barcelona launched a quick counter-attack, Roque shot from about 7m away, with an open goal in front of him, but he sent the ball wide. However, the 2-1 score was enough for Barcelona to take all 3 points.
After round 19 of La Liga, Barcelona has 41 points, ranking 3rd on the rankings, 7 points behind the leading team Real Madrid.
