Women's shooting and sepak takraw get encouragement after historic achievements

On the afternoon of April 4, Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Hoang Dao Cuong had a working session with the two national teams of women's sepak takraw and shooting who are gathering and preparing for the 33rd SEA Games at the National Training Center for Senior Athletes (Nhon).

At the end of March, the Vietnamese women's sepak takraw team won a historic gold medal at the World Cup. In the 4v4 women's event, the Vietnamese golden girls overcame formidable opponents Thailand to win the championship.

This is a favorable start for the Vietnamese women's sepak takraw team towards its goals in 2025, with the world championship in July and the 33rd SEA Games in December - both taking place in Thailand.

Since the beginning of 2025, the Vietnamese women's sepak takraw team has gathered 16 athletes, including key players such as Tran Thi Ngoc Yen, Nguyen Thi My, Nguyen Thi Ngoc Huyen, Nguyen Thi Yen, and a few young U19 players.

Praising the achievements of the Vietnamese women's sepak takraw team, Deputy Minister Hoang Dao Cuong hopes that the team will continue to maintain their form towards the 33rd SEA Games and further, the 2026 Asian Games. The Deputy Minister also requested the Nhon center to ensure training and living activities, and especially support timely recovery and injury treatment for athletes.

For the Vietnamese shooting team, at the 2025 Asian Shooting Cup held at the end of February, shooters Ha Minh Thanh, Pham Quang Huy, Vu Tien Nam, and Tran Cong Hieu helped the Vietnamese team win the first gold medal in the men's team event in the 25m rapid fire pistol event in the history of Asian-level competitions.

According to the latest announcement from the International Shooting Federation (ISSF), shooter Trinh Thu Vinh is ranked 8th in the world, shooter Pham Quang Huy is ranked 76th in the world - both in the 10m air pistol event.

During the working session with the Vietnamese shooting team, Deputy Minister Hoang Dao Cuong emphasized that this is one of the key teams of Vietnamese sports, always receiving great attention and investment.

The Deputy Minister suggested that the Vietnam Sports Department coordinate with the Vietnam Shooting Federation to consider adding more foreign experts (including private interpreters), ensure that there is no shortage of ammunition, address the proposal to equip at least one new gun for key athletes, conduct overseas training trips to improve the professional qualifications of athletes as well as train the next generation of athletes.

The Deputy Minister encouraged the Vietnamese shooting team to make more efforts to make a breakthrough in the future, not only achieving the goal of 7 gold medals at the 33rd SEA Games, but also aiming to win medals at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.
