Discussing cooperation solutions to implement the Project on Prevention and Combat of Human Trafficking in Quang Tri

This morning, April 24, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Hoang Nam had a working session with Ms. Hera Shanaj, Director of the Vietnam Human Trafficking Prevention Project (CTIP).

At the meeting, CTIP Director, Ms. Hera Shanaj said that the project, which will be implemented from 2023-2028 with a budget of 6.5 million USD, will contribute to the implementation of Vietnam's national goals to reduce human trafficking and strengthen response to human trafficking at the provincial and national levels through comprehensive prevention and protection measures.

The project will focus on identifying, verifying and protecting victims of human trafficking, including those trafficked within their own country, domestic workers and domestic helpers, or those trafficked to other countries and returned on their own.

CTIP will strengthen local capacity and increase engagement in selected provinces to recognize different forms of trafficking, develop verification, proactive victim identification and enhanced victim support, and collect and share evidence for policy development and implementation.

The project will also implement effective and targeted prevention activities including behavior change and livelihood development, while enhancing engagement and cooperation from relevant partners...

At the meeting, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Hoang Nam briefly introduced the socio-economic situation and geographical location of Quang Tri.

Recently, besides many advantages in economic development investment cooperation with countries in the region, Quang Tri has a number of bad elements transporting drugs and human trafficking through Quang Tri.

Faced with this situation, Quang Tri province has proactively implemented measures to prevent and combat crimes, including human trafficking. In particular, the Provincial People's Committee has issued a Plan to implement the Program to prevent and combat human trafficking for the period 2021-2025, with a vision to 2030; a plan to respond to the National Day to Prevent and Combat Human Trafficking on July 30 and a plan to implement annual human trafficking prevention and combat work.

From 2023 to present, the functional forces in the province have prosecuted 1 case/3 defendants for human trafficking; discovered, arrested and prosecuted 10 cases/13 defendants for organizing illegal exit and entry for others, including a number of cases with signs related to human trafficking; received, rescued and supported 6 cases of victims and suspected victims of human trafficking returning home...

During the period 2013-2016, the Department of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs also coordinated with World Vision to implement the Victim Protection Project under the End Human Trafficking Program. During the project implementation, 5 victims in difficult circumstances were supported with capital to do business.

To effectively prevent and combat human trafficking, the Department of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs coordinated with World Vision and other agencies and units to organize 13 training sessions for 420 officials; organized 48 legal aid conferences for more than 2,600 people; and developed coordination regulations in receiving, verifying, identifying, protecting and supporting victims. During the period 2013-2016, the total project budget directly supporting the above activities was 56,866 USD.

At the request of the Director of CTIP, Quang Tri province is ready to cooperate with the project organization to implement the project with the best results.
