At 5:30 a.m., groups of tunnel diggers put on protective gear and prepare for a new day's work.

No amount of words from "writers" like us can describe what it means to "witness" the tunnel digging work once, to witness the hardships and difficulties, and to see the will and faith of the people here.

The clock had just struck 9 o'clock, and inside the tunnel, the temperature had already reached over 50 degrees Celsius. The management board of the package had to equip additional equipment and high-capacity dust extraction fans to support engineers and workers during their work.

Having worked for 3 years at Deo Ca Group, having participated in the completion of Truong Vinh tunnel construction before being transferred to Tuy An tunnel construction site, worker Nguyen Huu Dan confided: Every day working inside the rocky mountain is a challenge, not only for health but also for perseverance and endurance.

"We faced the sweltering heat and suffocation inside the mountain and the difficult construction terrain. However, from that difficulty, the camaraderie among colleagues became even stronger. Newcomers to the tunnel were also guided and instructed by those who had gone before, step by step, before "practicing their profession," Mr. Dan confided.

What motivates him and his colleagues to persevere? "If everyone chooses the easy work, who will do the hard work?", Mr. Dan said, adding that the work is hard but the workers are lucky to see the results of their efforts every day.

"Under the high mountain, a tunnel will be opened to connect the country's vital highway, that is the happiest thing. The management board also cares about the brothers a lot! The pressure on progress is very high but the brothers are all understood, encouraged and shared," said Mr. Dan.

Determined to conquer the only mountain tunnel of the Chi Thanh - Van Phong expressway project, Mr. Nguyen Phi Do, Chief of Tuy An Tunnel Engineering Team, could not help but be moved when talking about his brothers and colleagues.

"The most memorable moments are the moments when we completed the "difficult" stages, overcoming complex geological sections. At that time, the "tense as a guitar string" faces became bright with familiar smiles, and then everyone was happy again, shaking hands and congratulating each other.

At this construction site, if it is not a hot sunny day, it will be a rainy and windy day. There are storms that sweep through, forcing some work to slow down. The brothers in the tunnel and some other construction teams still cling to the mountain, cling to the construction site to find solutions to maintain construction output. Overcoming the sun and overcoming the rain is like that," Mr. Do said with a smile.

Understanding the feelings of engineers and workers, an officer of the XL01 package management board of Deo Ca Group said that for the cause of opening the road, at the large Chi Thanh - Van Phong expressway construction site, there are many workers who "put aside" their family joy to work day and night with the contractor.

Understanding these sacrifices, the living and working places are always invested in by Deo Ca Group to be spacious and comfortable. The health of officers, engineers, workers in general and tunnel construction workers in particular is focused on with regular in-depth examination and check-ups.

"After being together for a long time, everyone feels that the construction site and the camp are like a second home. There is work, and there are also peaceful moments. After dinner, in the corner of the yard, on the stone bench, on the soccer field or in front of the office lobby,... the father calls his children, the husband calls his wife to chat, the children call to ask about the health of their parents at home.

The care sent from the construction site, the love given from the "rear", the sharing of the commander and colleagues become valuable spiritual "medicine" to make the following working days more enthusiastic and effective than the previous working days", the leader of the executive board shared.

Spacious camps and full meals are the motivation for engineers and workers of Deo Ca Group to overcome difficulties at the project.

Progress far exceeds plan

Undertaking the work value of more than 1,600 billion VND at the Chi Thanh - Van Phong expressway project, a representative of Deo Ca Group said that with the determination and consensus of the contractor and workers, as of mid-September 2024, the contractor's construction output reached more than 950 billion VND, reaching 59% of the contract value, exceeding 6% compared to the plan.

The completed disbursement volume reached 785 billion VND, reaching 48%, exceeding 10% of the plan.

"Based on the actual implementation situation, it is expected that the excavation and reinforcement of Tuy An tunnel will be completed in January 2025, moving towards the construction of cement concrete road surface and technical system in May 2025; Construction of traffic safety and lighting system will be completed in August 2025.

For the main route, it is expected that from November 2024, the contractor will start constructing the first layer of asphalt concrete, completing the asphalt concrete item in December 2024. There are 4 main route bridges that will also be completed in October 2024," said a representative of Deo Ca Group.

Despite efforts to keep up with the schedule, the contractor also said that the construction scope is currently facing some difficulties such as: the locations of the site arising due to adjustments to the design solution have not approved the site clearance plan and compensation has not been made, leading to people obstructing the construction; The geology of Tuy An tunnel is different from the original technical design, leading to the need to adjust the measures to reinforce the supporting structure, increasing the volume and cost...
