On the morning of March 30, Meritorious Doctor, Specialist II Doctor Pham Minh Truong (62 years old) - Director of Hue Eye Hospital, confirmed that he was the person in the photo that is spreading and causing emotion on social networks. The photo depicts a doctor sitting and dozing on the hallway floor, taken by Ms. Nguyen Thi Minh Nhat - a hospital consultant.
Doctor Truong recounted that on that day, he and his colleagues at Hue Eye Hospital and Japanese ophthalmologist - Professor Hattori Tadashi operated on 42 patients with cataracts at A Luoi District Medical Center, Thua Thien - Hue Province.
“At noon, because I was so tired from the surgery, I went out to the hallway to take a nap,” said Dr. Truong, adding that he did not expect his colleagues to secretly take pictures and post them on social media.
The moment Doctor Truong took a nap in the hospital hallway was recorded by his colleagues.
On March 29, Dr. Truong and a team of doctors and experts continuously examined more than 500 patients at the A Luoi District Medical Center. Among them, 42 cases of cataracts were indicated for surgery.
"We operated on 42 patients all day from morning to afternoon," said Dr. Truong.
42 patients were operated on completely free of charge. Because they lived in remote areas, the patients could not go to the hospital, so the team of doctors came to examine and operate locally.
“Before leaving, we spent a month working with the medical center and local authorities,” Dr. Pham Minh Truong shared. All surgeries went smoothly.
Doctor Pham Minh Truong added that on May 21, the hospital will have another round of free medical examinations and surgeries for people in Nam Dong (a mountainous district in Thua Thien - Hue).
Dr. Pham Minh Truong is an ophthalmologist working at the first public hospital in Vietnam to receive the Eye Health Heroes award - Heroes in Blindness Prevention presented in Kathmandu, Nepal in 2017.
