Three body signs warning of diabetes

Dark neck, skin tags, fungal infections… can be warning signs of high risk of diabetes.

The first signs of diabetes are often vague, and don't always leave the sufferer feeling tired. This means many people don't know something is wrong.

So, Sasha Haddad, a family physician in Los Angeles (USA), shared three important signs that show your body is approaching diabetes, but are less known.

According to Dr. Haddad, when you eat sugar, your pancreas releases a hormone called insulin. Insulin removes sugar from the blood and helps move it into cells for energy.

“Type 2 diabetes is caused by poor diet, lack of exercise, and obesity. As a result, your body becomes resistant to insulin and your blood sugar spikes, leading to health problems later on,” Haddad explains.

Three health problems that occur due to this damaging process can appear on your neck, skin, armpits, groin, and between your toes.

Darker neck

According to Haddad, if the skin in the neck area is darker and velvety, it could be a dangerous sign warning of diabetes.

One of the reasons behind this could be acanthosis nigricans - a condition where the skin becomes dark and velvety, often occurring in skin fold areas.

This area of ​​hyperpigmentation has no clear border and may be thicker than other areas of normal skin.

Skin tags

Another warning sign to look out for is skin tags. These are small fleshy growths of skin and epithelial tissue that can range in size from one to several millimeters.

These pimples usually lie on a small stalk above the skin surface.

Yeast infection

The final sign that your body is at high risk of diabetes is a fungal infection that affects the armpits, groin, and between the toes.

Although yeast is normally present inside the body and on the skin, too much yeast growth can cause an infection.

The concern is that high blood sugar levels create conditions that encourage yeast to grow more.
