According to GizChina , Apple has posted 28 new AI-related job openings in just the first three weeks of May. These positions include senior engineers, research scientists, special project managers, etc. The company wants to "transform Apple's mobile computing platform", redefining the iPhone and iPad using the power of artificial intelligence.
Apple is increasingly showing interest in the field of AI.
Apple’s increased AI hiring isn’t a surprise given recent developments. CEO Tim Cook had some concerns during the Q1 2023 earnings call, when he expressed interest in the advancements in general AI. While he found AI fascinating, he said it had many flaws that needed to be ironed out. As such, Cook believes Apple needs to be careful about its adoption. However, Cook also said that AI is “amazing” and that the company will continue to fund R&D related to incorporating AI into its products.
Apple previously listed 87 positions with “AI” in the job title, with more than half of those positions filled by March 2023. Apple is also testing a new natural language generator for Siri. The variety, number, and growth of new AI-related job ads reflect the company’s efforts to address the issue.
Apple hopes to develop natural language processing AI capabilities as well as general AI, which can be used in a variety of ways across platforms and services.
