According to TechSpot , talk of foldable iPhones, iPads, and laptops has been around for years, but Apple's foldable ambitions appear to be coming to fruition.

The tech giant has long been known to wait until new technologies are fully developed before jumping in. If the long-rumored 20-inch foldable MacBook is true, it would mean Apple thinks foldable laptop technology is finally ready for commercialization.

The foldable future is upon us, with reports suggesting the tech giant is working on a laptop with a foldable display as large as 20 inches. According to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, the unique MacBook is expected to go into mass production in 2027.

In a recent post on X, Kuo revealed that the 20.3-inch MacBook is “Apple’s only foldable product with a clear development schedule.” While details are scarce, the statement suggests that foldable iPhones and iPads may still be a distant dream for Apple fans.

Display expert Ross Young previously mentioned that Apple is working on a 20.5-inch foldable laptop, which is slightly different from Kuo's 20.3-inch claim.

The question is what it will look like and how it will work. Most current foldable laptops, like the LG Gram Fold or HP Spectre Foldable, can switch between tablet mode and a traditional clamshell design with a detachable keyboard. Perhaps Apple’s will offer a full-screen virtual keyboard when folded, eliminating physical keys altogether?

Regardless of the form factor, the 20-inch foldable display would certainly be Apple’s largest laptop display yet. The company’s current largest laptop is the 16-inch MacBook Pro, having discontinued the 17-inch model in 2012.

Overall, foldable displays are the trend, and Apple cannot afford to be left out as Samsung, Motorola, LG, and others continue to innovate. 2027 will give Apple enough time to further refine and perfect the technology before launching its first product.
