After much speculation, Apple finally refreshed the Mac Pro line with this year's latest M2 Ultra chip. This is also the biggest update to the Mac Pro in the past 4 years, but the design remains unchanged compared to the old model using Intel chips.
The biggest upgrade comes from the inside with the M2 Ultra chip along with 6 PCIe Gen 4 expansion slots, 8 integrated Thunderbolt ports. According to Apple, the device can be configured with up to a 76-core GPU and 192 GB of RAM, providing 3 times faster processing speed than its predecessor.
The new Mac Pro has the world's most powerful computer configuration today.
The M2 Ultra is essentially two M2 Max chips connected together using Apple's UltraFusion technology, which increases the number of CPU cores to 24 and up to 76 GPU cores, 30% faster than the M1 Ultra chip. The new silicon processor is developed on a 5nm process, doubling the memory bandwidth of the M2 Max chip, reaching a maximum of 800 GB/s and supporting 2 times more RAM than the M1 Ultra.
The six PCIe Gen 4 expansion slots aren't the latest, but they're still impressive and support most graphics cards, SSDs, and other peripherals available today to power up your machine and meet the needs of professional content creators.
In addition, the machine also has 8 Thunderbolt 4 ports (6 on the back and 2 on the top), twice as many as the previous generation. Similar to the Mac Studio, the new Mac Pro model supports up to 6 Pro Display XDRs, and is updated to the latest Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3 standards. The machine has 3 more USB-A ports, 2 HDMI ports (supporting 8K signal resolution, reaching a frame rate of 240 Hz) and 2 10 Gb Ethernet ports. The 3.5mm headphone jack is still retained on this new model.
The cheapest device starts at $6,999 (nearly VND164 million) and will be available for sale from June 13. In Vietnam, users can also soon buy this product after the online Apple Store officially opened on May 18.
