According to Digital Trends , the expected launch date of the iPhone 17 series is only about 6 months away, and rumors about the new models are heating up. The latest leaked information shows that the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max could become the first iPhones in history to support 8K ultra-high-definition video recording, a significant step forward for Apple's mobile video recording capabilities.

Apple will have a major upgrade with video recording capabilities on the iPhone 17 Pro line

According to Fixed Focus Digital , Apple is said to be planning to equip 8K video recording capabilities for the Pro versions of the iPhone 17 generation. The basis for this rumor comes from previous reports, claiming that all three rear cameras on the iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max will be upgraded to 48 MP sensors.

With the requirement of at least 33 MP image sensors to produce 8K images, equipping all three cameras with 48 MP sensors will fully meet this requirement. This is a significant upgrade compared to the current iPhone 16 Pro, which is limited to 4K recording capabilities due to the Tele camera only having a resolution of 12 MP.

If this rumor turns out to be true, Apple would catch up with top Android rivals like the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra and OnePlus 13, which already support 8K video recording.

The ability to shoot 8K video offers a number of image quality benefits. This ultra-high resolution captures a level of detail that surpasses 4K, resulting in sharp, lifelike footage, especially when viewed on large screens. It also offers significant flexibility in post-production, allowing users to crop or zoom in without too much loss of quality.

However, shooting 8K video also comes with its own challenges. 8K video files take up a huge amount of storage space, which can quickly fill up a phone's internal memory. Recording and processing this high-resolution video also requires a lot of hardware power, leading to more battery consumption and the potential risk of the device overheating when recording for a long time. Furthermore, 8K screens are not yet really popular in life, making it difficult for many users to feel and enjoy the full benefits that this resolution brings.

Apple is expected to launch the full iPhone 17 lineup this fall. In addition to upgraded video recording capabilities, the iPhone 17 Pro models are also rumored to feature a completely new rear camera cluster design.
