According to a report by the Wall Street Journal, Apple is in talks to invest in OpenAI - the company that owns ChatGPT and is a leader in the field of generative AI.
OpenAI is in talks to reach a $100 billion valuation in a new funding round, sources said.
Microsoft, OpenAI's largest investor and currently receiving half of the company's profits, will also participate in the new round of funding.
If confirmed, Apple's involvement with OpenAI would come just in time for September 9, when the company is expected to launch new iPhone models.
In June 2024, Apple announced that it would offer OpenAI's technology as a software option for its top-end iPhone models, but the company also said that AI tools from other companies would also be integrated in the future.
Currently, most of the AI features used by Apple users will be based on the company's own technology, but more complex tasks can switch to using OpenAI technology if customers choose.
This is a move that shows Apple is increasingly interested in the issue of artificial intelligence - a trend that is reshaping the industry.
