Android 16 is currently in the Developer Preview stage, as reported by Android Authority. The latest developer preview of Android 16 includes a multitasking system inspired by OnePlus' Open Canvas. This will be an interesting improvement for large-screen and foldable devices, as OnePlus' Open Canvas is considered the best multitasking tool available today.
Code found in Android 16 DP2 mentions a split-screen mode in development. Android Authority's Mishaal Rahman managed to get the feature working on his Pixel device, though the feature isn't ready yet and currently doesn't split apps properly.
This feature is still in testing and it is not yet certain whether it will be released on Android 16. If completed in time, it could be used on all Android phones and tablets, and manufacturers like Samsung could specifically take advantage of these features for book-style folding devices.
Android 16 is expected to be released in the first half of this year.
