In October 2024, Hanoi successfully surpassed many famous destinations such as Bangkok (Thailand), Seoul (Korea) or Tokyo (Japan), winning the title of "Best Culinary City in Asia" at the World Culinary Awards. This is an award within the framework of the World Travel Awards, honoring outstanding units and brands in the tourism and travel industry.

In 2023, at this award, Hanoi also surpassed "strong competitors" such as Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia) and Taipei (Taiwan, China) to win the title of "Best emerging culinary city destination in Asia".

In early 2024, Vietnam's capital was also ranked as one of the world's top 15 culinary destinations by readers of Tripadvisor, the world's largest travel guide platform.

In 2023, Hanoi will have 3 restaurants rated 1 star by the Michelin Guide - a prestigious award in the world of cuisine, 13 restaurants will receive the award for good food at affordable prices (Bib Gourmand), 32 restaurants will be on the Michelin Selected list (Michelin Selected). By 2024, Hanoi will have 5 new names on the Bib Gourmand 2024 list and 5 new restaurants in the Michelin Selected category.

In order to exploit and develop culinary tourism products to become the strength of the capital's tourism, in recent times, Hanoi has promoted the system of restaurants and establishments honored by Michelin, along with other prestigious restaurants and eateries in Hanoi on the airwaves of media channels, social networking sites as well as at domestic and international tourism promotion events. Many city- and international-scale culinary events and festivals have been organized to promote destinations, cultural exchanges, and at the same time increase the attraction of tourists to Hanoi.

In August 2024, at Tran Nhan Tong Walking Street (Hai Ba Trung District), Hanoi Department of Tourism organized the Hanoi Tourism Gift Festival 2024 with the theme "Hanoi Gifts", aiming to honor the culinary quintessence of Hanoi, contributing to preserving and promoting folk culinary culture.

The festival also discovers and honors folk artists, collects and preserves ancient recipes and cooking methods, preserves and promotes the culinary treasure not only of the Vietnamese people, but also of ethnic groups across the country, contributing to the development of the capital's tourism industry.

Recently, the Hanoi Food Culture Festival 2024 with the theme "Hanoi connects five continents" directed by Hanoi City, organized by Hanoi Department of Culture and Sports, took place at Thong Nhat Park for 3 days (from November 29 to December 1) attracted nearly 110,000 people and tourists.

The festival brings together more than 80 booths with many specialties of Hanoi, 8 other provinces and cities in the country (Ha Giang, Son La, Lang Son, Hung Yen, Bac Ninh, Khanh Hoa, Thanh Hoa, Quang Binh) and 16 embassies such as India, Japan, Mongolia, Laos, France...

Immediately after the Hanoi Culinary Culture Festival, the Diplomatic Corps Services Department (Ministry of Foreign Affairs) coordinated with other units to organize the 2024 International Culinary Festival with the theme "Connecting Cuisine", taking place from December 7 to 8 in Hanoi with the participation of 60 countries and territories.

Localities in Hanoi such as Son Tay, Gia Lam, Hoan Kiem are also actively introducing and promoting culinary culture to tourists. Hoan Kiem District is building a project "Developing and promoting culinary cultural heritage of Hoan Kiem District to serve tourism development, until 2025, orientation to 2030" to gradually identify the brand, build a digital culinary map to serve tourism.

In addition to promoting and creating tourism products associated with cuisine, Hanoi will also focus on organizing training courses on civilized tourism behavior, service skills, and communication with people, vendors, and service staff in the tourism sector to improve the level and attitude of serving tourists, creating a civilized tourism environment in the capital.
