The AI boom has raised concerns that the technology will take away millions of jobs around the world in the future. The International Monetary Fund (IMF) also took a less optimistic view of AI this week. Reporting that AI will affect about 40% of jobs worldwide, the IMF added that the technology could also deepen inequality if politicians do not intervene.

AI will help the world a lot
Billionaire Bill Gates, however, does not necessarily agree with this view. He cites evidence that throughout history, every new technology has caused the world to worry when it first appeared, but then opened up new opportunities.
“When people saw the increase in agricultural productivity in 1900, they said, ‘What are people going to do?’ In fact, a lot of new things, a lot of new jobs were created, and our lives are much better than when everyone was doing farm work,” Gates said. “This will be the same.”
In an interview with CNN on Tuesday (January 16), Mr. Gates predicted that AI will make people's lives easier, such as helping doctors do paperwork efficiently, which is "a part of the job that they don't like."
Because it doesn't require "a lot of new hardware," Gates said access to AI can now be done through a phone or personal computer with an internet connection.
The billionaire also pointed out that the improvements to OpenAI's ChatGPT-4 are significant because it can basically read and write, so humans almost have an assistant to help write code, give health advice, and support technical calls. Mr. Gates said that incorporating this technology into the education or medical fields would be great.
Microsoft, co-founded by billionaire Bill Gates, has a multi-billion dollar partnership with OpenAI. Gates remains one of Microsoft's largest shareholders.
"The goal of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation is to close the gap between delivering benefits to people in poor countries and delivering benefits to rich countries. After all, the shortage of doctors and teachers is worse in Africa than in the West," Mr. Gates said at the World Economic Forum in Davos.
Give away your wealth
According to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index, Bill Gates is worth around $140 billion, making him the fourth richest person in the world. However, Gates would still be the richest person in the world if he did not spend a huge amount of money on charity.
In an interview with CNN, Bill Gates said he was not worried about his fortune dwindling. "I have more than enough money to spend on myself. I'm forcing myself down the list and I'll be proud when I drop down the list," the billionaire said.
The Microsoft co-founder and his ex-wife, Melinda French Gates, have both pledged to donate the majority of their fortunes to the foundation they founded together 20 years ago, as well as to other charitable efforts.
In 2022, Mr. Gates announced plans to donate $9 billion annually through 2026. He said he was excited because this would have a big impact on the organizations he donates to.
Billionaire Gates said he and other billionaire friends like Warren Buffett have donated about $100 billion to their charities. At a rate of $9 billion a year, Bill Gates predicts he will give away his entire fortune in about 20 years.
