Half a million dong per day still full room
Ms. Nguyet Anh, a cat owner in Quan Nhan (Thanh Xuan, Hanoi) spent nearly 3 million VND for her cat to go to a pet hotel for 10 days.
Many people are also willing to spend a lot of money to take care of their pets during Tet. Pet sitting shops in Hanoi are all full and not accepting any more, even though the service price for a high-class room is up to 500,000 VND/day.
According to a survey by Dan Tri reporters, pet care service systems in Hanoi all have fees ranging from 100,000-500,000 VND/day.
Pet rooms come in a variety of types, divided by the weight of the pet or the quality of each room type. Notably, the high-end VIP A room for pets, which costs up to 500,000 VND/day, is still chosen by owners for their pets.
VIP room prices are high because pets are fed nutritious meals, sleep on mattresses, have air conditioning, toys, and are bathed, have their ears and nails cleaned daily. In particular, the stores also provide 24/7 camera monitoring services for owners to monitor.

At the pet store chain on Nguyen Trai Street (Thanh Xuan, Hanoi), the situation of crowded customers also occurred similarly. Since the 15th of December, customers have booked 70% of the rooms and customers usually book from the 29th of Tet to the 5th of Tet.
Mr. Khanh, an employee at the store, said that up to now, the number of available rooms at the store is almost full. He also said that the room rates for pets have not increased, the room rates here start from 79,000 VND/day and the highest is 429,000 VND/day for large pets.
"Currently, the facility only has one room available. Customers mainly live around this area so they have booked early," Mr. Khanh shared. Therefore, if customers want to send their dogs or cats during Tet, they must deposit 200,000 VND/room in advance because during this period, demand increases so rooms are often sold out early.
"Painful wallet" when going to pet sitting
Some pet owners, especially those with long Tet holidays, said they had a headache with the cost of taking care of their dogs and cats during this time.
Mr. Thai, 30 years old, living on Minh Khai Street (Hanoi), said his family planned to travel during Tet so they had to find a place to leave their pet. This year, the economic situation is more difficult, so he only looked for cheap rooms, with prices starting at 200,000 VND/day. Including the grooming service, his dog spent more than 2 million VND during the 10 days of Tet.
The long vacation schedule of some students also causes the cost of keeping pets during Tet to increase very high.
Minh Chau, a third-year student at the National Economics University, said the school had given an early Tet holiday. Ha and her roommates both went back to their hometowns for Tet, so Chau couldn’t ask anyone to look after her cat.
After looking into the prices of dog and cat care services at pet stores, Chau was surprised because the prices were higher than she had imagined and were quite a large amount of money for a student.

Chau joined pet care experience sharing communities on social networks to learn more about cat care services during Tet. She also contacted some places that take care of pets at home with cheaper fees, only from 50,000-70,000 VND/day. However, Chau is still worried because she is afraid that sending them to small retail stores will not be hygienic, and cats will easily get sick and infected with fungus.
Ms. Linh, the owner of a cat boarding facility on Lang Street (Dong Da, Hanoi) said that pet care and boarding services are quite expensive because the staff has to take very good care of the pets. "Most of the pets that are sent to the shelter are expensive breeds, so the shop has to take care of them regularly and look after them carefully, which is very hard work," Ms. Linh added.
She confirmed that she would feed her dogs and cats with seeds, pate, etc. as promised. Therefore, places that lower their prices below the average to compete may not meet hygiene and safety requirements or may not feed their pets enough.
In addition to sending dogs and cats, customers also often come to the store to bathe and beautify their "bosses". Ms. Linh revealed that the number of customers coming to the store to bathe and spa their dogs and cats increased sharply during the Lunar New Year, and her store staff often had to work overtime to meet the increased demand.
She said that the full pet bathing and grooming services cost from 100,000-650,000 VND/session depending on the weight and thickness of the pet's fur.
During Tet, customer demand increases so the store will increase service throughout Tet, and services during Tet will also have a surcharge of 15-20% of the regular price list.
