The tradition room of Nguyen Gia Thieu High School (Ngoc Lam Ward, Long Bien District) still preserves 3 poems composed by General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong when he was 18-19 years old (1962-1963). The poems are full of love for school and full of youthful thoughts and ambitions.
Located in a small alley on Ngoc Lam Street (Long Bien District, Hanoi), near the end of July 2024, although it was summer vacation, Nguyen Gia Thieu High School still welcomed many delegations of visitors. This is also the place that contributed to creating an outstanding intellect and personality of the country: General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong.

"I study at 10B Nguyen Gia Thieu"
During his 6 years studying at Nguyen Gia Thieu Secondary and High School (1957 - 1963), the mark of Nguyen Phu Trong's student days left in the school's tradition room are 2 old photos. One with a scholarly figure, the other with 2 friends Ngo Ba Duc and Hoang Van Tai. The school's registration book still has the handwriting of Nguyen Phu Trong "received his transcript on September 14, 1963", "received his graduation certificate on November 19, 1963" along with two signatures.

Along with that are 3 poems composed and handwritten by General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong himself: Missing school (November 1963), Season of royal poinciana flowers (May 1963), The last year of high school (September 1962). All 3 poems were composed by General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong in his final year (grade 10), written on unlined paper but still straight, with even handwriting. The poem The last year of high school has a passage: I am so happy, so happyI studied at 10B Nguyen Gia ThieuNow I have become the "big brother"Life is happy, flying like a kiteYes, that's right, now I am the "big brother"The last year of high schoolThen tomorrow, everywhere, the Fatherland will wait for us - bustling with pink. In the 3 poems composed more than 60 years ago, student Nguyen Phu Trong also has a verse about his passionate love for teachers and friends at Nguyen Gia Thieu school. Also in those 3 poems, the once-lofty student, like many other young people, carries heavy thoughts and ambitions, wanting to live a life that is not boring, not "living in vain, living in vain". We still count the seasons of blooming royal poinciana flowers , We will still hear the bustling sound of cicadas chirping,In the rhythm of the wide-open path of life,Of tomorrow in our beloved Fatherland( Poem Royal Poinciana Flower Season). Or: What to do to make life more meaningful,The last year of high school,Or just let life pass quietly,Following the cold, boring time?( Poem The Last Year of High School) And then, carrying that ambition at the age of 18 - 19, student Nguyen Phu Trong has moved on, has gone very far, has become an outstanding leader of the country. And after more than 60 seasons of "royal poinciana flowers blooming", the great heart of the country has just stopped beating in the sorrow of millions of people.

Teacher Do Van Khoa, Vice Principal of Nguyen Gia Thieu High School, could not hide his emotion: "After hearing the news of the General Secretary's passing, I personally felt very sad and disappointed, feeling like I had lost a relative in my family. That was also the common feeling of the staff, employees and students of the school, because everyone had a very deep affection for Mr. Trong". Since taking on the role of manager, teacher Khoa has had the honor of meeting and welcoming General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong twice. "Once, I went with the school's Party Committee to invite him to attend the 70th anniversary of the school's founding. Stepping into his office, I was surprised to see that it was very simple; there was only a reception desk and a desk with many documents", teacher Do Van Khoa recalled.
Teacher Do Van Khoa was moved when he witnessed the flag being raised at half-mast in the school yard.

Mr. Khoa continued: "At that time, the school invited him to attend, he accepted but the school did not dare to think 100% that he would come, but on the anniversary day he was there. When he met the teachers, he still called the teachers in the school "teachers" and called himself "em". He said to introduce himself as a former student. At the anniversary, he gave a speech as a former student". Not only the management staff but also the school's staff had memories of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong. Mr. Ngo Van Duong (59 years old, Head of the Office Group) said that during more than 30 years of working at the school, he had the honor of meeting the General Secretary many times. Mr. Duong said: "When he was the Editor-in-Chief of the Communist Magazine and Secretary of the Hanoi Party Committee, Uncle Trong often returned to school to attend class reunions. At that time, I was a school security guard and saw him often driving his motorbike home. When he reached the gate, he got off the motorbike and said, "Let me in for the class reunion." I made him some water and offered him some, then he patted my shoulder and asked, "Where are you from?"; I replied, "I'm from Dong Anh." After that, we began to form a feeling of compatriotism."
Mr. Ngo Van Duong met General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong many times.

Mr. Ngo Van Duong recounted that even when he was the highest leader of the Party, every time he returned to school, the General Secretary would stop his car outside and walk through the gate to go inside. "My family and I regularly follow Uncle Trong's situation. The other day, my mother read the news in the newspaper and was so moved that she burst into tears. It's a pity, a pity for such a talented person. It's not just me, but many people who feel like that, feel the sudden loss of a talented, close to the people, and enthusiastic person," Mr. Ngo Van Duong emotionally shared.
These days, Nguyen Gia Thieu High School has stopped all entertainment activities, focusing only on professional activities and activities to commemorate General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong. It is expected that on July 25, the first day of the National Funeral, the school will hold a flag-raising ceremony and a memorial service for General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong. According to Mr. Do Van Khoa (Vice Principal of the school), the school will soon include traditional education in its teaching plan so that generations of students can learn from the example of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong.
