The Ministry of Public Security's rescue force prepares to leave for Myanmar.
The team is expected to land in Myanmar tonight, March 30. Over the next 10 days, the rescue team from the Ministry of Public Security will search for people, provide medical treatment, and participate in activities to overcome the consequences and damage caused by the earthquake.
After the 7.7-magnitude earthquake that occurred on March 28 - one of the largest earthquakes to ever shake this Southeast Asian country in the past century - on March 30, the Ministry of Public Security said it would send a rescue team to Myanmar to deal with the consequences.
According to the Ministry of Public Security, the rescue team of the Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam consists of 25 people, led by Colonel Nguyen Minh Khuong, Deputy Director of the Fire Prevention and Fighting and Rescue Police Department; 2 foreign affairs officers and interpreters, a doctor, 22 officers and soldiers, 2 service dogs and rescue vehicles and equipment.
The delegation is expected to arrive in Myanmar tonight.
During the 10-day period, the rescue team of the Ministry of Public Security will participate in searching for people, providing medical examination and treatment, participating in activities to overcome the consequences and damage caused by the earthquake and other activities in the field as requested by the Myanmar side, in accordance with the expertise and capabilities of the team.
Equipment ready to go.
Regarding the earthquake, by the evening of March 29, the death toll in Myanmar had increased to 1,644 people.
Previously, in February 2023, the Ministry of Public Security also sent 24 officers from the professional rescue team and medical staff to support Turkey in overcoming the consequences of the earthquake. At that time, Vietnam was one of the first countries to send search and rescue forces from the Ministry of Public Security and the Ministry of National Defense to Turkey.
This noble gesture has been recognized and highly appreciated by Turkish leaders and international friends as it clearly demonstrates Vietnam's commitment to carrying out the global humanitarian mission.
