Information from the People's Committee of Phu Nghia commune said that, regarding the incident in which Dak U Hydropower Company caused flooding in people's gardens during its operation, after many times of working, the affected households have now been compensated and supported by the unit as committed.
Talking to us, households whose gardens and fields were affected by Dak U Hydropower Plant confirmed that they had received compensation from the company. Mr. Nguyen Van Hoc, Head of Bu Gia Phuc 2 Village, Phu Nghia Commune, said that the total area of gardens and fields of people in the village affected was 4.8 hectares. Recently, the investor has implemented compensation and support for affected households, with an amount of 35-55 million VND/ 1,000m2 .
Mr. Dieu Son in Bu Gia Phuc 2 village is one of the households whose gardens were affected by Dak U Hydropower Plant. He said that his family has about 4,000m2 of gardens flooded and unable to produce. After many years of demanding their rights, the family recently received 140 million VND in compensation and support from the company.
Receiving compensation and support, Mr. Dieu Lo in Bu Gia Phuc 2 village happily said: My family has nearly 1 hectare of land that is often flooded and cannot be cultivated. After many years of petitioning, my family recently received compensation of more than 347 million VND. My family will use this money to renovate the land, develop the economy, and stabilize our lives.

Mr. Tran The Son, General Director of Dak U Hydropower Company, said that after a period of inventory, measurement, and agreement on the area of gardens and fields of affected people, and surveying market prices, the company has recently completed procedures and compensated more than 2.55 billion VND to affected households. Of which, 4 households in Bu Ka village, Dak O commune were compensated and supported with more than 829 million VND; households in Bu Gia Phuc 2 village were compensated and supported with more than 1.72 billion VND. In general, all households showed high consensus, happily signed commitments and received support money. Depending on the area and affected crops, households were compensated and supported with at least about 20.5 million VND; households were compensated and supported with the most 519 million VND.
Dak U Hydropower Company was granted land use right certificate No. AN 359612 on October 16, 2008, No. BD 752390 on July 28, 2011 by the People's Committee of Binh Phuoc province and started operating in December 2009. During the operation, flooding occurred, affecting dozens of hectares of cultivated land of households in Bu Gia Phuc 2 village, Phu Nghia commune and Bu Ka village, Dak O commune, Bu Gia Map district.
Because the compensation and support process between the people and the company could not find a common voice, the matter dragged on for many years. After that, the people and local authorities repeatedly petitioned and reflected to the authorities at all levels but it was still not resolved. The matter dragged on for many years, causing frustration for the people, so on September 15, 2023, the People's Committee of Bu Gia Map district continued to report and petition the Provincial People's Committee to promptly direct the settlement. On September 25, 2023, the Provincial People's Committee issued a document assigning the Department of Industry and Trade to preside over and coordinate with the Department of Natural Resources and Environment, Dak U Hydropower Company and related units to settle the compensation for the people. The Department of Industry and Trade and related units had a working session with Mr. Tran The Son, General Director of Dak U Hydropower Company, requesting to quickly implement the agreement and compensate households as committed. The compensation payment time is no later than November 2023. The Department of Industry and Trade also requested the People's Committee of Bu Gia Map district to support site clearance and provide compensation unit prices for the investor to make compensation, but the matter was still not resolved. On July 17, 2024, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Tran Van Mi chaired a meeting with Dak U Hydropower Company to consider a solution. In which, the leader of the Provincial People's Committee requested Dak U Hydropower Company to complete compensation for households in September 2024.
People of Phu Nghia and Dak O communes, Bu Gia Map district come to complete procedures to receive compensation and support after a long time of petitioning and complaining.
Explaining the delay in compensation and support for the people, Mr. Tran The Son, General Director of Dak U Hydropower Company, said: Along with business development, the company always focuses on caring for and improving the lives of people in the area where it is located. Therefore, the company is always ready to compensate and support affected people. However, because the company was acquired in 2019. During the Covid-19 pandemic, travel was difficult, while to complete compensation procedures and support people, the company needed time to measure, agree on the area, number of affected households, as well as land prices to have a suitable support plan.
