12 teams participating in the 2024 Press Cup in the Southern region

(CLO) On the afternoon of October 21, Vietnam Family magazine coordinated with the Trade Union of the Press Department - Ministry of Information and Communications, and the Vietnam Journalists Association to hold a press conference to announce the National Press Agency Football Tournament - Press Cup 2024 in the Southern region.

Speaking at the press conference, journalist Tran Trong Dung, Vice President of the Vietnam Journalists Association in charge of the Southern region, Head of the Steering Committee of the Tournament, said that the 8th National Press Cup Football Tournament for Press Agencies in 2024 in the Southern region will officially open at 7:30 a.m. on October 23 at Tao Dan Stadium (No. 1 Huyen Tran Cong Chua, District 1, Ho Chi Minh City).

"The tournament is meaningful in promoting the movement of physical training and sports among cadres, employees, reporters, editors, and journalists at press agencies from central to local levels. Thereby, the tournament creates a playground, improves physical fitness, cultural and spiritual life, enhances exchange and learning between cadres, employees, reporters, editors, and journalists in each press agency and between press agencies with each other," Mr. Dung assessed.

The tournament is also one of the activities to carry out the campaign "All people exercise following the example of great Uncle Ho"; celebrate the 99th anniversary of Vietnam Revolutionary Press Day (June 21, 1925 - June 21, 2024) and celebrate the 79th anniversary of the National Day of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam (September 2, 1945 - September 2, 2024).

According to Mr. Dao Trong Nhan, Head of the Representative Office of Vietnam Family Magazine in Ho Chi Minh City, Head of the Organizing Committee of the Southern region, this year is the first time the qualifying round of the Southern region has the participation of 12 teams from 14 central and local press agencies in Ho Chi Minh City such as: Thanh Nien Newspaper, Tuoi Tre Newspaper, Nguoi Lao Dong Newspaper, Sai Gon Giai Phong Newspaper and Ho Chi Minh City People's Radio VOH, Ho Chi Minh City Law Newspaper and Tri Thuc Znews Magazine, Life and Society Reporters Club, Ho Chi Minh City Television Station (HTV), Vietnam Television Center in Ho Chi Minh City (VTV9), SCTV Cable Television, FPT PLAY Television, VNEXPRESS Newspaper, Tay Ninh Radio and Television Station.

"In particular, this year there is the participation of a football team from Tay Ninh Radio and Television Station - Tay Ninh province. With careful preparation by the organizing committee, the tournament is expected to bring a new atmosphere and competitive excitement to the football teams," said Mr. Nhan.

Accordingly, in the southern region, 12 teams will be divided into 3 groups and compete in group stage matches to find the 2 strongest candidates to participate in the national final round which will take place in Thai Nguyen province in November.

"After 7 seasons, with the participation of many teams from press agencies from central to local levels; the enthusiastic support of a large number of officials, reporters, editors, and journalists across the country, the Press Cup has truly been a useful playground, affirming the prestige, brand as well as the influence of the tournament not only in the press but also in the social community.

Through each season, the organization of the tournament has become increasingly strict and serious. The participating players have demonstrated the spirit of dedication and nobility of the sport, thereby increasing the connection and solidarity between press agencies. All comments and suggestions from the teams will be handled by the organizing committee in accordance with the tournament's regulations based on the spirit of objectivity and fairness," Mr. Nhan emphasized.

Prize structure for the 2024 Press Cup season:

1/ First Prize: Cup, gold medal, flag, 15 million VND

2/ Second Prize: Silver medal, flag, 8 million VND

3/ Third Prize: Bronze medal, flag and 5 million VND

4/ Player with the most goals in the tournament: Flag, 2 million VND

5/ Best goalkeeper: Flag, 2 million VND

6/ Excellent referee team: Flag, 2 million VND

7/ Style award: Chess, 2 million VND
