This is also a common concern of many students at the Exam Season Consulting program organized by Thanh Nien Newspaper in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and Training at Da Lat University on the morning of March 23.
The program was broadcast live on the Thanh Nien Newspaper website thanhnien.vn , via the fanpage and YouTube and TikTok channels of Thanh Nien Newspaper, with the participation of Dr. Pham Nhu Nghe, Deputy Director of the Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education and Training, and universities and colleges in Ho Chi Minh City, Lam Dong, Khanh Hoa.
NO SCHOOL GUARANTEE A JOB AFTER ENROLLMENT
A 12th grade student from Tran Phu High School asked a representative of the Ministry of Education and Training: "This year I want to apply for university, but I heard that many university graduates are unemployed. So should I go to university or not and which school should I apply to to ensure I have a job?"
Discussing the issue raised by students, Dr. Pham Nhu Nghe informed: "The Vietnamese government has committed to the world to build Vietnam's economy into a knowledge-based economy. To develop the country and develop ourselves, we have no other choice but to go to school. Currently, the student ratio in our country is very low, only about 200 students/10,000 people. In the digital human resource development strategy, the goal by 2023 is that we must strive to achieve a ratio of 260 students/10,000 people. In the coming time, as Vietnam's economy develops, the labor market will need more university graduates. Therefore, universities must continue to increase enrollment to meet the demand."
Dalat students are excited with the information they got from the Exam Season Consulting program held on the morning of March 23 at Dalat University.
According to Dr. Nghe, Vietnam currently has 250 universities per 100 million people. If compared to Japan with 125 million people but 760 universities, the number of universities in Vietnam is still very low.
"Regarding the issue of unemployment or not, we have to look at it from a broader perspective. In the world, there is no country without unemployment. Researchers say that an unemployment rate of less than 5% is normal. This is also one of the conditions to stimulate the development of the labor market, stimulate quality training and stimulate workers to improve their own professional skills. Currently, the unemployment rate in Vietnam is lower than in many countries," Dr. Nghe acknowledged.
According to Mr. Nghe, there are many factors leading to unemployment, such as the labor market not creating enough jobs compared to the number of graduates, or students not meeting job requirements...
From there, Dr. Nghe reminded students that no university guarantees a job once they enroll, because employment depends largely on the student himself. "A student studying at a prestigious university can still be unemployed, while another student studying a trade at a college can still have a job. The most important thing is that once you have chosen a major, you must have passion, determination and effort to achieve good academic results. In addition to the main curriculum, students must equip themselves with soft skills, participate in many experiential activities, learn foreign languages and information technology so that they can later meet the job requirements of employers," said Dr. Nghe.
Regarding the occupations that are attracting human resources in the Central Highlands, ensuring employment after graduation, Dr. Tran Huu Duy, Head of Training Management Department, Dalat University, said: "The key areas are agriculture and forestry, processing technology, tourism, including occupations in high-tech agriculture, biotechnology, information technology, automation, renewable energy, logistics, cultural tourism, eco-tourism...".

DIFFERENCES BETWEEN RELATED INDUSTRIES
Pham Nguyen Khanh Linh, a student at Thang Long High School for the Gifted (Da Lat), wondered about the difference between biology and biotechnology and whether group B students can apply for other majors besides the above two.
Dr. Tran Huu Duy analyzed that biology includes in-depth knowledge of animals, plants, microorganisms; the formation, development and evolution of organisms. This industry is the foundation for the development of biotechnology. Biotechnology will apply biological knowledge, technological processes, and provide scientific research projects to serve life. The job opportunities of these two industries are equivalent.
"If you consider block B, in addition to these two majors, you can consider food technology, agronomy, post-harvest technology, biology pedagogy, and chemistry pedagogy at Dalat University," Dr. Duy shared.
Master Do Van Cao, Deputy Head of University Training Department, Nha Trang University, said that the school's biotechnology major is designed towards marine biology and biodiversity. Meanwhile, Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry has majors in biotechnology for agriculture, biotechnology in biomedicine and cosmetic biotechnology.
Meanwhile, a student from Thang Long High School for the Gifted was confused between tourism service management and tourism culture because he did not know how these two majors were different. Dr. Van Huu Quang Nhat, Head of the Faculty of Economics and Management, Thai Binh Duong University, explained: "The tourism culture major conducts in-depth research on the culture of localities and countries to design and create cultural tourism products. This major is related to both marketing and communication knowledge. Meanwhile, the tourism service management major provides knowledge on business administration and setting up and operating effective travel companies."
