Fruit and vegetable exports in 2023 will reach a record of more than 5 billion USD

According to information from the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, in the first 10 months of 2023, fruit and vegetable export turnover reached more than 4.9 billion USD, an increase of 78.4% over the same period in 2022.

Fruit and vegetable exports on track to set record

Vietnam mainly exports fruits and vegetables to markets such as China, the US, South Korea, Japan, and the Netherlands. Of which, fruit and vegetable exports to China reached over 2.75 billion USD, up 2.6 times over the same period in 2022. Next is the Netherlands with an increase of 50%, South Korea with an increase of 21%, and Japan with an increase of 6%. Currently, China is the leading market in terms of Vietnam's fruit and vegetable export market share, reaching 65%, up 22% over the same period in 2022.

Notably, some fruit products had spectacular breakthroughs such as: durian reached 1.8 billion USD, accounting for more than 50% of total export turnover; jackfruit, mango, longan, grapefruit, watermelon of Vietnam exported to markets of Korea, Japan, China, Netherlands also increased sharply from 45 - 150% compared to the same period last year.

Cassava enters the "billion dollar export club"

According to statistics from the General Department of Customs, in October 2023, Vietnam exported 268.4 thousand tons of cassava and cassava products, equivalent to 136.5 million USD, up 2.1% in volume and 11.1% in value compared to September; up 12.6% in volume and 33% in value compared to October 2022.

In the first 10 months of 2023, the export of cassava and cassava products reached 2.4 million tons, worth 1.03 billion USD, down 6.4% in volume and 8.8% in value compared to the same period in 2022.

Regarding export markets, China remains the largest customer. In the past 10 months, China spent 929.6 million USD to buy nearly 2.18 million tons of cassava and cassava products, accounting for 90.4% of Vietnam's total export turnover of this industry.

Exports to Japan in October reached 1,102 tons, worth 613.3 thousand USD. In the first 10 months of 2023, Japan spent 1.85 million USD to import 3,512 tons of cassava and cassava products, an increase of 505.5% in volume and 432.6% in value over the same period in 2022.

Cashew exports in October 2023 hit a record high

According to the General Department of Customs, in October 2023, Vietnam's cashew nut exports recorded a new record high of 64.32 thousand tons, worth 358.18 million USD, up 13.3% in volume and 15.5% in value compared to September 2023, up 47.7% in volume and 37.1% in value compared to October 2022.

In the first 10 months of 2023, Vietnam's cashew nut exports reached approximately 516.87 thousand tons, worth 2.95 billion USD, up 21.8% in volume and 15.9% in value over the same period last year.

In October 2023, cashew nut exports to most traditional and potential markets increased sharply compared to the same period in 2022. Cashew nut exports to the Netherlands, Germany, the UK, and the United Arab Emirates increased sharply. In general, in the first 10 months of 2023, cashew nut exports to all major markets increased in volume, while in terms of export value, only the Australian market decreased.

Of which, cashew nut exports to the US market reached 733 million USD, up 4.7% over the same period last year; to the Chinese market reached 522.3 million USD, up sharply 46.6%.

Next, exports to the Netherlands reached 295 million USD, up 19.8%; to Germany reached 99 million USD, up 8.4%; to Thailand increased 10.2%; to Saudi Arabia increased 36.1%; exports to Canada, the United Arab Emirates and the UK increased 9.3%, 59.9% and 7.3% respectively.

Vietnam's crude oil exports set new record in October

According to statistics from the General Department of Customs, Vietnam's crude oil exports in October set a record with triple-digit growth.

Vietnam exported 241,352 tons of crude oil in October with a value of more than 189 million USD, a sharp increase of 176.9% in volume and 182.8% in value compared to September 2023. In the first 10 months of the year, our country exported more than 2.27 million tons of crude oil with a value of more than 1.54 billion USD, an increase of 1% in volume but a decrease of 18.7% compared to the same period in 2022.

In the first 10 months of the year, Thailand imported 911,535 tons of crude oil from our country with a value of more than 609 million USD, an increase of 24% compared to the first 10 months of 2022. The export price reached 661 USD/ton, down 24% compared to the same period in 2022.

In the first 10 months of the year, Vietnam's crude oil exports earned more than 1.54 billion USD.

Ranked second is Australia with 722,684 tons of crude oil equivalent to a value of more than 508 million USD, a sharp increase of 71% in volume and 35.8% in value compared to the same period in 2022. The average export price reached 704 USD/ton, down 18.7% over the same period.

Japan ranked third with 249,577 tons of crude oil in the first 10 months of the year, equivalent to more than 164 million USD, a slight increase of 2% in volume but a decrease of 25% in value compared to the same period in 2022.

Singapore ranked fourth with 76,087 tons worth more than 60 million USD, down 26.3% in volume and 31% in value compared to the same period in 2022.

Vietnam's cinnamon exports rank first in the world

According to data from the Vietnam Pepper Association, by the end of October 2023, Vietnam had exported 74,744 tons of cinnamon worth more than 220.3 million USD, up 19.2% in volume but down 1.3% in value compared to the same period last year. The average export price in the first 10 months of the year reached 2,948 USD/ton, down 17.2% compared to the same period in 2022.

In October 2023, Vietnam exported 74,744 tons of cinnamon worth more than 220.3 million USD.

Vietnam's cinnamon export value has continuously increased over the years. In 2022 alone, cinnamon exports brought in more than 276 million USD with many countries increasing imports, notably cinnamon exports from Vietnam to Pakistan increased by more than 200% compared to 2021.

For the US - the second largest market for Vietnamese cinnamon, in 2022, Vietnam's cinnamon export turnover to this country reached about 50 million USD, accounting for 35% of the total cinnamon import turnover of the US.

Pepper exports in October increased in volume and value

According to preliminary statistics of the Vietnam Pepper Association (VPA), in October 2023, Vietnam exported 19,193 tons of pepper of all kinds, with a total export turnover of 72.7 million USD. Compared to September 2023, the volume of pepper exported increased by 15.4%, and the turnover increased by 17.3%.

In October 2023, the US market accounted for 26.9% of Vietnam's pepper exports, reaching 5,169 tons and up 34.5% over the previous month. Next, the Chinese market reached 1,738 tons, down 21.9% over the previous month; the Indian market reached 1,300 tons, up 31% over the previous month...

In the first 10 months of 2023, China is still Vietnam's largest pepper export market, reaching 57,723 tons, accounting for 25.8% of the market share and increasing by 265.3% over the same period. However, China's import volume in recent months has been on a downward trend after having purchased enough goods from the first two quarters of the year.

The United States is Vietnam's second largest pepper export market, reaching 42,600 tons, accounting for 19.1% of market share and down 6.3% over the same period.
